Players: pokes, NotAJumbleOfNumbers, Bais, Josh, Kevan

==Flavor==
* Player - Animal
* Energy - Population
* Attack - Attack
* Defense - Defense
* Power - Adaptation
* Sidekick - Symbiont
* Round - Year

==Variant==
Players submit a single Adaptation at first, then a second Adaptation after they've seen everyone's first submission.

==Arguments==
* Egrets (pokes): This is a Symbiont with 10 Population. If an Attack would reduce your Population by less than 10, the Egrets instead gain that Population.
* Poisonous (Kevan): When an Animal deals damage to you, it loses 5 Population.
* Flight (Josh): Cannot be targeted by conventional attacks by any creature who doesn't have flight, unless there are only two animals remaining. All Animals who bid above the mean average for this Adaptation win it.
* Natural Predator (Bais): When you gain this Adaptation, choose an Animal (here termed X). Your Attack against Animal X also counts as Defense from X's Attacks.
* Diverse Microbiome (Jumble): Collection of 5 Symbionts, with 4 Population each. For every symbiont that you have, you gain +4 to your Defense.

* Large Shell (pokes): Spend 5: Allocate 7 more defense to any Animal. This Adaptation can't be used if you have Flight.
* Colony Collapse (flaw) (Jumble): If you take more than 20 damage in a round, you are eliminated.
* Webbing (Kevan): If an Animal with Flight attacks you, it may spend no Energy on Defence during the next round.
* Extremely Tough Hide (Josh): If this is the only Adaptation an Animal has then it automatically gains 50 Defense every round. Otherwise, the Animal with this Adaptation gains an extra 20 Defense in any round where they don't activate any of their adaptations (where adaptations with passive effects are considered to be 'activated' every turn).
* Mimicry (Bais): The bids to this and the Poisonous Adaptations are hidden. This Adaptation is not publically or privately distinguishable from Poisonous once bidding is concluded; Both powers are to be referred as "Poisonous (?)" after bidding concludes, except for the next clause. If this is not discarded after bidding, Poisonous Adaptation has "5" replaced with "10". If the same player happens to control multiple Adaptations called "Poisonous (?)", they can only choose to discard all of them, or none of them.

==Lineup==
Kevan the Lesser-Spotted Dodo

Flight: 7 (can't be hit by non-fliers)

Natural Predator vs. Bais: 9 (attacks vs. Bais count as defense from Bais)

Webbing: 4 (Fliers can't defend next round)

Extremely Tough Hide: 4 (does nothing)

Poisonous (?): 6 (MAYBE damagers lose 10 pop)

-4 flaw

56 Energy

==Combat==
Mimicry crumbles on first Year as Josh attacks Bais heavily and suffers a backlash from Bais's actual Poisonous.
After the first three Years of minor pecking, Kevan goes all-in on pokes, and leaves his guard open for a team-up of Jumble and pokes that would be deadly even without Kevan's flaw. Pokes is reduced to their cohort.

The game becomes a mess around here, as it becomes apparent Bais and Josh are immune to attack from anyone else, Josh has defense against Bais's basic attack but is poisoned every time he does attack Bais for even 1 point of damage.

On year 6, Pokes and Bais go all-in on Jumble, leaving Jumble heavily maimed and pokes' cohort defeated.

At this point players just declare their actions to go on repeat.

* year 7, jumble defends for 26, bais defends 55/attacks jumble for 25, josh full attacks bais, jumble 26 bais 78 josh 46
* year 8, jumble defends for 26, bais defends 45/attacks jumble for 33, josh full attacks bais, jumble 19 bais 77 josh 36
* year 9, jumble defends for 19, bais defends 35/attacks jumble for 42, josh full attacks bais, jumble 0 bais 76 josh 26

==Attempted names for variants==

We should make some effort to name these, I think, so that someone starting a game can say "right, paranormal bureau setting: Open Bids, Blind Ties, Last Player Standing" rather than having to explain their favoured house rules conversationally or (as actually happens) not say anything, and potentially trip people up once the game starts. Some suggestions:

Bidding:

* Open Bids (default): All bids are revealed.
* Hidden Bids: Bid amounts are never revealed, only who won which power and how much Energy they have left.
* Leader Bids: Winning bid amounts are revealed, losing bids are not.

Ties:

* Public Ties (default): If players tie on a power, all bids are revealed and the tied players are asked to rebid on tied power(s).
* Blind Ties: If players tie on a power, the moderator announces this fact (without revealing other power wins, or any bid values) and asks tied players to rebid on tied power(s).
* Shared Ties: If players tie on a power, they all receive copies of that power.

Endgame:

* Last Player Standing (default): Game continues until one player remains. Players cannot resign from the game or leave Energy unassigned.
* Surrender: Players can agree to stand down at any time.

"Default" options are those used or implied by the core Rumble ruleset. I'm not sure it's worth getting into the weeds of all possible tie resolutions, as currently described: we should just name the particular variants that moderators are actually using. (It may even be worth folding the Bidding and Ties variants into a single set, as some combinations - Hidden Bids, Public Ties - are plainly incompatible.) --[[User:Kevan|Kevan]] ([[User talk:Kevan|talk]]) 11:31, 12 February 2021 (UTC)

==MtG-isms==

Sometimes terms will appear that are well-defined in Magic: the Gathering but not in Rumble - should the MtG interpretation hold, keeping in mind some people playing Rumble may not be MtG players?

Example:
* "Ability" as a term for "effect caused by a power"
* "Target" - do powers that affect every player at once "target"?
Zaratustrahttps://wiki.blognomic.com/index.php?title=Rumble:_Dialectic&diff=12363Rumble: Dialectic2020-11-10T14:46:14Z
Zaratustra:

Players: pokes, Cuddlebeam, card, TyGuy6, Kevan

Flavor:
* Player - Philosopher
* Energy - Thesis
* Attack - Attack
* Defense - Defense
* Power - Argument
* Sidekick - Student

Arguments: (additional rulings added in bold)
* Radical Skepticism: (Passive, by Cuddlebeam) You ignore the effects of all other Arguments (even your own) except this Argument.
* Argumentum ad baculum: (Passive, by Cuddlebeam) If your Attack is higher than a target's Defense, that target's Defense becomes zero.
* Solipsism: (Passive, by Kevan) If you are the only remaining Philosopher with any Arguments, you win.
* Philosophical Zombies: (Passive, by card) You cannot take damage from Students.
* Socrates: (Student, by TyGuy6) This is a Student with starting Thesis of half of the total you spent on Arguments. When Socrates loses Thesis (not counting any part into the negative), its owner, if alive, gains that much Thesis.
* Nitpicker: (Student, by pokes) ''Starts with 30 Thesis''. While a Nitpicker is alive, their owner's Attacks are halved in strength.
* Included Middle: (Active, by pokes) Burn X[4], where X is this Argument's Strength: You can use other Arguments you have at no cost this round.
* Skepticism: (Active, by Kevan) Burn 10 and choose an Argument belonging to a Philosopher with less Thesis than yours: Remove that Argument from the game.
* Sophist Accusation: (Active, by card) Spend cumulative 0*, choose an Argument: this round, the chosen Argument and its activations have no effect. *This cost increases by 1 each time it's paid.:copyright: Plagiarist: (Passive, Flaw) You can't assign Attack to any Philosopher with higher Thesis than yours.
* Plagiarist: (Flaw, by TyGuy6) You can't assign Attack to any Philosopher with higher Thesis than yours.

Rulings:
* Radical Skepticism obviously protects against the lesser Skepticism, so it also protects against the other counter-power, Sophist Accusation.
* Radical Skeptics will not have Socrates or the Nitpicker by their side.

Bids:

pokes aka Leonard McLeod: Thesis 54 + Kevin the Postdoc: Thesis 30
* Sophist Accusation (23)
* Nitpicker (23)
* Plagiarist (0)
TyGuy6: Thesis 95

Cuddlebeam aka Charles Baum: Thesis 97, "Circular Logic is right, therefore I am right."

Kevan: Thesis 91
* Skepticism (7)
card: Thesis 77 + Socrates: Thesis 11
* Argumentum ad baculum (7)
* Radical Skepticism (4) (discarded)
* Philosophical Zombies (4)
* Socrates (4)
* Included Middle (4)

Solipsism was not bid on.

Combat:
Nothing happened for the first two rounds. In desperation, the moderator stated that if nobody loses Thesis until the end of round 3, round 4 will have Defend cost 2 points of allocation per 1 point of Defense.

Things then started running. Kevan was disproven first, then card left in a huff, leaving Cuddlebeam at half the Thesis of other two. Then Cuddlebeam flipped a coin to deliver the win to TyGuy6.

Suggested house rules for playing [http://www.koryheath.com/zendo/ Zendo] on the BlogNomic Slack:

* Each Koan is constructed from a string of emoji, and marked with a black or white circle "reaction" emoji to represent a response stone.
* At the start of the game, the Master announces a list of the emoji which are being used for the game.
* The Master may choose to announce the possibly salient aspects of the emoji ("we are using these four food emoji; the fruit/vegetable aspect and the dominant colour are the only possible significant aspects") or to leave this as something to be worked out by the players ("we are using these five faces; any aspect of the graphic may be significant"). As a baseline, the emoji are simply considered to be distinct symbols. Any named aspects do not have to be used in the rule.
** In particular, take into notice that Slack does not guarantee Unicode emoji to be rendered with the same art across various implementations, and any details outside the standardized meaning of the emoji may be lost.
* Any spacing between emoji is irrelevant.
* The Master maintains a pinned post listing all koans judged so far, and updates it as the game progresses.
* When a game starts, players may join it by simply playing a move. When the Master announces that the round has ended, the turn order becomes locked in with those players, and repeats for the rest of the game.
* From round 2 onwards, the channel topic lists the players of the game in turn order, and the number of guessing stones they possess, to be kept updated by the Master.
* Players may not Mondo during the first round.
* So that the next player knows whether to take their turn or not: if a player is considering making a guess after their Koan is judged, they must either stay online to respond to it immediately, or announce the possible intention when making the Koan.
