Would be good to extract a canonical list of games so that we can veto in advance, but I'm not seeing an immediately obvious way to scrape that data out of BGA's web pages.

Tournament voting

BlogNomic players take part in occasional tournaments on BoardGameArena, taking a poll for games to play. This is a living list of voting emoji for those tournaments, to be pasted onto Discord for polls:

6️⃣ 6 Nimmt / 🗿 7 Wonders Architects / ⚔️ 7 Wonders Duel / 🍎 Applejack / 🟥 Azul / 🔙 Backgammon / 🐻 Bärenpark / 🐱 Boop / 🐰 Bunny Kingdom / 🧑‍🌾 Carcassonne / 🏡 Castles of Burgundy / 🖼️ Caper: Europe / 🥣 Century: Spice Road / ☯️ Chakra / 🔱 Conspiracy / 🕵️ District Noir / 🧚 Fairy Trails / 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 Haggis / *️⃣ Hex / 🐝 Hive / 💡 Innovation (no expansions) / 🔊 Innovation (Echoes expansion) / 🏺 Innovation (Artifacts expansion) / 🌇 Innovation (Cities expansion) / 🏰 Kingdom Builder / 👑 Kingdomino / Ⓜ️ Machiavelli / 🌒 Nova Luna / 🪡 Patchwork / 🧙 Res Arcana / 🏗️ Santorini / 🪙 Scopa / 🧂 Sea Salt & Paper / 🐕 Spots / 💎 Splendor / 🍣 Sushi Go Party / 🚩 Tapestry / 🧌 Tash-Kalar / 🎷 Uptown / 🐦 Wingspan

Feel free to add any suitable games that you think are worth playing. Tournaments are generally two-player - we can do 3+ player ones, but should probably be wary about those with a lot of short turns, as they'll take a while spread across timezones.

BlogNomic Random Tournaments

Starting in August 2023, BlogNomic is playing a number of tournaments of randomly selected two-player games from the BGA collection. On Discord, in the #online-board-games channel, react to the pinned message to opt-in to a role that will be pinged when new tournament signups are available.

Ground rules for those tournaments are (and by all means propose amendments on Discord):

  • Each tournament is a random game from the list at BlogNomic_on_BoardGameArena/RandomGameList (derived from https://boardgamearena.com/gamelist?specificTag=30). We've not yet decided if we're picking games which nobody has played, or if we're just skipping widely known games.
  • Possibly: Players can only join a BN Random tournament if they have never played the game before.
  • Players unfamiliar with a game are only allowed to read the game's rules: they cannot read up on strategy tips, or play any practice games.
  • First tournament was Single Elimination, but Swiss might be better in future.
