Core Rules
Ruleset and Gamestate
This is the Ruleset for BlogNomic; all Contestants shall obey it. Section One consists of the "core rules" of BlogNomic, covering basic proposal mechanics; Section Two contains the rules of the current dynasty; and Section Three contains the glossary, which exists solely to clarify the remainder of the ruleset. Rules may be referred to by their type, entire number and name or type and name. (e.g. This Rule may be referred to as Rule 1.1 Ruleset and Gamestate or the Rule entitled “Ruleset and Gamestate").
The Ruleset and Gamestate can only be altered in manners specified by the Ruleset.
Admins may correct obvious spelling and typographical mistakes in the Ruleset at any time, including replacing Spivak pronouns with the singular "they". A typographical mistake is defined as “A mistake in printing, typesetting, or typing, especially one caused by striking an incorrect key on a keyboard.”
Contestants
Anybody may apply to join BlogNomic (if he is not already playing) by registering at http://blognomic.com via the Register link in the sidebar, and then making a post announcing his arrival. An Admin shall add him to the roster in the sidebar and the GNDT, at which moment he becomes a Contestant.
A Contestant may leave the game at any time by posting an entry to the BlogNomic weblog requesting such an action. A Contestant may only change his name as a result of a proposal approving the change.
Some Contestants are Admins, responsible for updating the site and the Ruleset, and are signified as such in the sidebar. Contestants who wish to become Admins may sign up with a username for the Ruleset Wiki, and submit a Proposal to make themselves Admins. Existing Admins may be removed from their posts by Proposal, CfJ, or voluntary resignation. New admins shall be given the GNDT configuration password when they become admins.
Some Contestants are Idle, and shall be marked as such in the sidebar. For the purposes of the Ruleset, excluding Rules 1.1, 1.2 and 1.8, Idle Contestants are not counted as Contestants. Admins may render a Contestant Idle if that Contestant has asked to become Idle or if that Contestant has not posted an entry or comment for more than 7 days. In the latter case, the Admin must announce the idling in a blog post. Admins may de-Idle a Contestant at his request - the Contestant's personal gamestate retains the values it had immediately prior to his going Idle. If one or more values would be undefined, it is set to the value new Contestants receive, if such a value exists.
Proposals
Any Contestant may submit a Proposal to change the Ruleset or Gamestate, by posting an entry in the "Proposal" category that describes those changes (unless the Contestant already has 2 Proposals pending, or has already made 3 Proposals that day).
Proposals can either be Pending, Enacted, or Failed. When a Proposal is first put forward, it is considered Pending.
Voting
Any Contestant may cast his Vote on a Pending Proposal by making a comment on that entry using a voting icon of FOR, AGAINST or DEFERENTIAL.
If the Contestant who made a Proposal has not cast a Vote on it, his Vote is counted as FOR. If a Contestant uses more than one Voting Icon in comments on a Pending Proposal, his Vote is the last voting icon he uses. If a Contestant leaves the game or goes Idle, his Vote is no longer valid. If a Contestant votes against his own proposal, that vote may not be changed. This is referred to as a Self-Kill.
A vote of DEFERENTIAL is a vote of no opinion, or of faith in the decision of the Host. The vote will count as the same as the Host's vote. The Host cannot cast a vote of DEFERENTIAL. If there is no Host, a vote of DEFERENTIAL counts as an explicit vote of abstention.
If no Host has voted on a proposal, a vote of DEFERENTIAL on that proposal does not count as a vote for the purposes of rule 1.5.
Enactment
The oldest pending Proposal may be enacted by any Admin (and the Ruleset and/or Gamestate updated to include the specified effects of that Proposal) if either of the following is true:-
- It has a number of FOR votes that exceed or equal Quorum, has been open for voting for at least 12 hours, and has not been vetoed or self-killed.
- It has been open for voting for at least 48 hours, it has more than 1 valid vote, more than half of its votes are FOR, and it has not been vetoed or self-killed.
The oldest pending Proposal may be failed by any Admin, if any of the following are true:-
- It has enough AGAINST votes that it could not be Enacted without one of those votes being changed.
- It has been open for voting for at least 48 hours and half or fewer of its votes are FOR.
- It has been open for voting for at least 48 hours and has fewer than 2 valid votes.
- The Contestant who proposed it has voted AGAINST it.
Whenever an Admin marks a proposal as enacted or failed, he must also mark his name, and report the final tally of votes (or the fact that the proposal was self-killed or vetoed).
Proposals the Host has voted to VETO are considered vetoed. Proposals the author has voted against are considered self-killed unless the Host has voted VETO on them, or they have fulfilled one of the other requirements to fail a proposal before the author’s self-kill vote is placed.
When Host votes to VETO a Proposal, any Admin may fail that Proposal from that moment on, even if it is not the oldest Pending proposal.
Calls for Judgment
If two or more Contestants actively disagree as to the interpretation of the Ruleset, or if a Contestant feels that an aspect of the game needs urgent attention, then any Contestant may raise a Call for Judgment (abbreviated CfJ) by posting an entry in the “Call for Judgment” category. The post shall go on to describe the issue, and measures that shall be taken to resolve it.
All Contestants may add votes of agreement or disagreement in comments to this entry, using appropriate voting icons (a Contestant's later votes overriding their earlier ones). Unfailed CfJs continue until they reach a quorum of FOR votes, a quorum of AGAINST votes, or if there is no hiatus going on, until four days have passed, and if there is a hiatus going on until two days have passed. After this time, if more than half of the cast votes are in favour, the Gamestate and Ruleset shall be amended as was specified. Otherwise, the CfJ fails. A Failed CfJ has no further effect.
Any CfJ that has no effect on the ruleset or gamestate may be automatically failed by any admin.
Gamestate Tracking
Proposals, Calls for Judgment, and other official posts, as well as specific gamestate information, shall be tracked by the BlogNomic blog at http://blognomic.com. Any Contestant may post to the blog at any time, but may only make official posts to the blog when the Ruleset allows it. Posts following the format specified by a rule are considered official posts.
If no Contestant has commented on it, an official post may be altered or removed by its author; otherwise this can only be done as allowed by the Ruleset. The Admin processing an official post is allowed to append to the post to reflect its new status. Anything appended to a post in this way must be placed in the Admin field of the post, and the post's Status must changed to reflect its status.
A non-official post may not, through editing of the blog or otherwise, be changed into an official post, with the following exception: Whilst a non-official post has been posted for less than five minutes and has no comments, the author may change the categories as they wish.
Voting and comments are accessible through the link at the bottom of every post.
Specific parts of the Gamestate data shall be tracked by the Generic Nomic Data Tracker at http://blognomic.com/gndt/generic.cgi?nomic=blog. Any Contestant may update any Contestant's data via the GNDT, whenever the Ruleset permits it.
All updates to the GNDT are logged - if a Contestant feels that an alteration goes against the Rules (as they were at the time of the alteration), he may simply undo the effects of that alteration. If such an undoing is disputed, a Call for Judgment shall be raised.
Contestants shall be assigned a password for the GNDT when they join the Nomic.
Dynasties
BlogNomic is divided into a number of Dynasties. Each Dynasty is headed by a single Contestant, known as the Host, and is named according to the number of Dynasties he has headed (eg. "The First Dynasty of Myke").
The Host may vote to VETO any Proposal.
Victory and Ascension
If a Contestant (other than the Host) believes that he has achieved victory in the current Dynasty, he may make a post to the Blognomic weblog in the Declaration of Victory category, detailing this.
Upon doing so, the game immediately goes into Hiatus, if it hasn’t already. During this time, the only game actions that may be taken are those covered by Rules “Contestants”, “Calls for Judgment”, “Gamestate Tracking” and “Victory and Ascension”.
Every Contestant may respond to an active DoV saying whether or not he believes the poster has achieved victory in the current Dynasty (using the FOR and AGAINST icons).
The Declaration of Victory may be resolved after 24 hours, or after 12 hours if the Host has voted on it. Upon resolution, if a Quorum of Contestants have voted on the DoV and more than half of those votes were in favour, then the DoV passes - otherwise the DoV fails, and if no other DoVs are still pending, the Hiatus ends.
When a DoV passes, all other active DoVs are failed, and a new Dynasty begins with the Contestant who made the DoV as its Host. (That Contestant may pass this role to another Contestant at this point, if he wishes.) The Hiatus continues until the new Host posts an Ascension Address to the BlogNomic weblog - this shall specify the Host's chosen theme for the new Dynasty, and may optionally include a proclamation that any number of Dynastic Rules will be repealed, and that any keywords will be replaced with new theme-appropriate terms.
A DoV may not be started in the period between a passing DoV and that DoV’s Ascension Address. When a DoV is failed, if it has a number of AGAINST votes that exceed Quorum, the Contestant who posted it cannot make another DoV until after 120 hours (5 days) have passed since the time their DoV was failed.
A Declaration of Victory may not also be any other type of Official Post unless the rules concerning that type of Official Post explicitly state otherwise.
Fair Play
The following are BlogNomic’s rules of fair play. If any of the rules are found to have been broken, a proposal or CfJ may be made to remove the perpetrator from the game, and bar them from rejoining.
- A single person should not control more than one Contestant within BlogNomic.
- A Contestant should not “spam” the BlogNomic blog. What counts as spamming is subjective, but would typically include posting more than ten blog entries in a day, more than ten blog comments in a row, or posting a blog entry of more than 1000 words.
- A Contestant should not deliberately exploit bugs or unexpected behaviours in the software running the game (ExpressionEngine, MediaWiki or the GNDT).
- Instead of deleting content from a blog post which has at least one comment, the content should either be struck through with <strike> tags, or replaced with a link to a copy of the same content on the wiki.
- A Contestant should not edit their own blog comments once posted, nor those of any other Contestant.
- A Contestant should not edit the "Entry Date" field of a blog post.
- A Contestant should not make or edit a post such that its title does not broadly match its URL title.
- A Contestant should not make a DoV primarily to delay the game by putting it into Hiatus.
Dynastic Rules
In or out?
Every Contestant except the Host is either In (default) or Out; this is tracked in the GNDT under the column “Status”. A Contestant who is In is known as an Insider; a Contestant who is Out is known as an Outsider.
There is a GNDT column called “Vote” whose legal values are blank, the names of all non-Host Contestants, and the names of Idle Contestants who have become Idle since the last time a Contestant became an Outsider. If a Contestant’s Vote would ever become illegal, it becomes blank instead. This defaults to blank. A Contestant can change their own Vote as a daily action.
At any time, if more than half of the Insiders have their Vote set to the same Insider, any Contestant can cause that Insider to become an Outsider by updating the GNDT accordingly.
Outsiders cannot gain Fame. When an Outsider becomes an Insider, they add 1 to their Fame. If a Contestant remains Out for more than a week they lose 1 fame per week that they remain Out.
Welcome Back
If an Outsider is supported by a Quorum of Insiders, any Insider may cause that Outsider to become an Insider by updating the GNDT accordingly. The former Outsider's Support then becomes the Insider who performed this action.
Make your mind up
An Insider whose Vote is not set to an Insider is said to be Misvoting. If at least 48 hours have elapsed since the last time a Contestant became Out, or if no Contestant has ever been Out, a Contestant may, as a daily action, change a Misvoting Contestant’s Vote to any Insider. (Changing the Vote of one Misvoting Contestant is the same daily action as changing the Vote of a different Misvoting Contestant; therefore, each Contestant may only change one other Contestant’s Vote per day.) Outsiders shall have their Vote statistic set to blank.
The Final Countdown
New Contestants (i.e. those who are becoming Contestants for the first time) and unidling Contestants have their Status set to Out.
Hands off
For the purposes of Dynastic Rules which do not explicitly state otherwise, the Host is not considered a Contestant.
Social Structure
There is a GNDT column called “Support” whose legal values are the names of all non-Host Contestants. A Contestant is said to Support the candidate named in that column. The Support statistic represents the other Contestant whom that Contestant would most likely go to for advice. A Contestant may change their Support to any valid Contestant as a weekly action. A contestant who Supports an Outsider may change their Support to any Insider at any time. A Contestant’s Support defaults to the Contestant immediately above them in the GNDT, skipping the Host, with the top Contestant defaulting to the bottom Contestant.
A Contestant can never have the same Vote and Support statistic. Two Contestants who support each other are a Pair. A Contestant who is supported by at least two other Contestants is a Leader. A Contestant who supports a Leader is a Follower. A Contestant supported by a leader is a Chosen. A Contestant cannot Support himself.
When an Insider becomes an Outsider, their Support is set to “-”. An Outsider cannot change their Support or have it changed by another Contestant. If a Contestant becomes Idle, all Insiders who support that Contestant have their Support changed to the Support of the Contestant who became Idle. If this would cause a Contestant to have an illegal Support statistic, that Contestant’s Support is instead reset to its default value.
Statistics
These are the statistics for this Dynasty.
Fame
Each Contestant has a Fame score, representing the amount of respect and attention they are currently receiving from the viewing public. Each Contestant’s Fame starts at zero.
Looks Like Fame Is Good For Something
An Outsider who has at least 5 Fame may “Bribe My Way Back In” by spending 5 Fame. When a Contestant “Bribes My Way Back In,” they become an Insider, and have their Vote and Support stats returned to their default values. In order to “Bribe My Way Back In,” the Contestant must make a blog post describing who he is Bribing (he can only Bribe an Insider who has a higher Fame rating than he did before spending 5 Fame, or the Host). The Bribed Contestant (or Host) may increase their own Fame by 1 once (the Host can gain Fame through this method). When a Contestant becomes an Insider by “Bribing My Way Back In,” they set their Location to “Control Room” and decrease their Looks by 1 (to a minimum of 0). No Contestant may ever “Bribe My Way Back In” more than once. No Contestant may “Bribe My Way Back In” at any time when there are fewer than 6 Insiders.
Looks
Each Contestant has a numerical statistic called “Looks”, tracked by the GNDT, which determines the relative attractiveness of the Contestant in regards to other Contestants. New Contestants and Unidling Contestants with no Looks shall set their Looks to 5.
Outshined
Whenever two or more Contestants have their Fame increased at the same time, if exactly one of those Contestants has more Looks than each other of those Contestants, that Contestant receives 1 extra Fame.
My face is up here
When a Contestant casts a vote of DEFERENTIAL on a proposal which has been created by a Contestant that has more Looks than the voter, the DEFERENTIAL vote is counted as the same type of vote as the vote of the Contestant who created the proposal in question.
Come here for a second
As a daily action, a Contestant (known as the Caller) may spend 1 point of Looks to change the Location of any Contestant to the Caller’s Location. If this action would cause the Caller’s Looks to become less than 10, the action can’t be taken.
Luck
Each Contestant has a Luck score, representing the amount of natural luck that Contestant has in their life. Each Contestant’s Luck starts at zero.
Putting Luck to Good Use
A Contestant may “Press My Luck” at any time by decrementing their own Luck by 1, so long as this does not reduce their Luck below 0. When the Contestant decides to “Press My Luck,” they may treat any one of their own DICE rolls as if they had rolled 1 more or less than they actually did. Whenever they do this, the Contestant must make a Story Post explaining the miraculous event that took place, which somewhere describes what the DICE roll was and what it is now being treated as. The Contestant may not change the new DICE value once the Story Post has been made. A Contestant may not “Press My Luck” on a DICE roll in a way which causes a result that was not a possible result of the unmodified roll. A Contestant may not “Press My Luck” more than once for the same DICE roll.
Hats
Most Contestants have a Hat, each tracked in the GNDT. The default hat for a new Contestant is Blue. The list of hats a Contestant can have is known as the Hat list. When an action makes a Contestant change hat (and does not specify which hat to change to) they change to the hat 1 lower on the list than their current hat (If their hat is at the bottom of the list they change to the first hat).
Hat List
The following is the list of hats known as the Hat List:
- 1. Blue
- 2. Green
- 3. Yellow
- 4. Red
Bare Head
Some Contestants don’t have a Hat. Such Contestants are said to be Bare-headed (or Bare). If a Contestant is bare the word ‘Bare’ appears as their entry under Hat in the GNDT. If an action tells a Contestant to become Bare (or if an action tells a Contestant to lose their hat), they lose their hat and are then bare.
Coloured Hats
An Insider with Fame, Looks, and Luck totalling between 20 and 29 inclusive has their Hat set to Green. An Insider with Fame, Looks, and Luck totalling between 11 and 19 inclusive has their Hat set to Yellow. An Insider with Fame, Looks, and Luck totalling 10 or less has their Hat set to Red. Insiders with a combined total of 30 or more Fame, Looks, and Luck have a blue hat. Outsiders always have a red hat regardless of these other conditions.
Voting Events
If either no Contestant has ever become an Outsider, or at least 48 hours have elapsed since the last time a Contestant became an Outsider, and there is no ongoing Voting Event, any Contestant may start a Voting Event by making a Story Post stating this. 24 hours after the post is created, if no Insider has become an Outsider since the post was created, the two Insiders with the most other Insiders Voting for them count as Nominated Contestants for the purpose of that Voting Event (all of the Insiders involved in a tie for the top-two-most-voted places become Nominated Contestants, if there is one, meaning that more than two Insiders can become Nominated). The Popularity of each of the Nominated Contestants for that Event is then calculated as follows, by starting at 0 and adding/subtracting the following modifiers:
- +10 for each point of Fame that Contestant has;
- +1 for each point of Looks that that Contestant has;
- +3 for each point of Luck that that Contestant has;
- +5 for each Insider who Supports that Contestant;
- -12 for each Insider who is Voting for that Contestant.
The Nominated Contestant with the lowest Popularity then becomes an Outsider; if there is a tie for lowest Popularity, all Nominated Contestants involved in that tie become Outsiders. (The fact that someone may have been Nominated in one Voting Event is irrelevant for all other Voting Events.)
Take it like a man
Insiders cannot become Idle if a Voting Event has been started in the past 24 hours.
Grace Period
If a Contestant has been registered and active for less than a period of 56 hours, he may be excluded from 1(One) Voting Event during the Grace Period of 56 hours or until he has accumulated 2 Fame, whichever goal is completed first.
Confrontation
If two Contestants have their Vote set to each other, they are Rivals. If both of the Rivals are Leaders, then one of the Rivals may create a Story Post stating that he/she is challenging their Rival to a Confrontation. Within 72 hours of the Confrontation being announced, both Rivals must roll DICEX where X is equal to the number of Followers the Rival has. Whichever Rival rolls the higher number is declared the Fight Victor; the Rival with the lower number is the Fight Loser. If both Rivals rolled the same number, they both gain 1 Fame and the Confrontation ends with no further effects. If one of the Rivals does not roll a DICEX within 72 hours, that Rival is a No-Show.
If one Rival is a No-Show, they are declared the Fight Loser, and the other Rival is declared the Fight Victor. If both Rivals are No-Shows, each lowers their fame by 1.
The Fight Victor gains 4 Fame. The Fight Loser gains 2 Fame and then becomes an Outsider, unless they are a No-Show, in which case they lose 1 Fame and then become an Outsider.
A Confrontation can not be proposed more than twice a week, and not more frequently than once every 48 hours. Contestants who are Outsiders before a Confrontation is proposed cannot be involved in that Confrontation.
Challenges
A Challenge is a competition between Contestants; only one Challenge may be ongoing at a time, and thereafter is finished. When a Challenge finishes, each Contestant has either Succeeded or Failed at that Challenge; in addition, if any Contestant Succeded at the Challenge, one Contestant who Succeded at the Challenge is its Challenge Champion. Unless there is an ongoing Challenge, the Host may create a Challenge by publishing a story post with [Challenge] in its title, which contains the following information:
- What causes a Contestant to Succeed at the Challenge (all other Contestants Fail at it);
- Which Contestant will become the Challenge Champion if any Contestant Succeeds;
- Under what circumstances, or at what time, that Challenge finishes.
A Challenge becomes ongoing when created; the Challenge finishes when specified in the Challenge, and the Contestants who Succeeded at it, and who Failed at it, and the Challenge Champion, are determined as specified by the Challenge. Then, the Challenge Champion gains 3 Fame (the Host is responsible for updating the GNDT accordingly); in addition, the Host may change the owner of one Reward to the Challenge Champion. If the Challenge Champion is an Outsider, instead they become an Insider then gain 1 Fame (in addition to any other Fame they would gain for becoming an Insider).
Despite rule 2.3, Contestants cannot change their Location to the Reward Room unless there has been at least one Challenge, they were Contestants at the time of the most recent Challenge, and they Succeeded at that Challenge.
Immunity
The Challenge Champion of the last completed Challenge has Immunity until another Challenge has been completed. A Contestant with Immunity cannot become an Outsider by any means other than Confrontation.
Extreme Challenge
If a Challenge includes the text [Extreme] in its title, then it is an Extreme Challenge. When an Extreme Challenge finishes, all Contestants who Failed that Challenge become Outsiders. All Contestants who Succeeded at an Extreme Challenge gain 1 Fame when that Challenge finishes (in addition to any Fame they might otherwise receive.)
Final Showdown
All Challenges must be Extreme Challenges. Only 1 Contestant may Succeed at any Challenge, and that Contestant is the Challenge Champion. Challenges must incorporate the Fame, Looks, and Luck statistics. Challenges may not incorporate the Vote and/or Support statistics. Challenges may incorporate Hats.
Casualties
Extreme Challenges can cause contestants to become Out, even before the challenge ends.
Rewards
There exist items called Rewards, which are recorded on the wiki page titled Rewards. Each Reward has a name, an owner, and an ability. Each contestant may own any number of Rewards. Once per week, each contestant may create a Reward, by recording its name on the wiki page. Contestants may not create rewards with abilities or owners. Once per day, the Host may create a Reward, or give a reward an ability.
The Owner of a Reward may only be changed according to the rules.
As a weekly action, the Host may remove any Reward from the list of Rewards, as long as said Reward has no Owner and no Ability.
Victory Conditions
If at any time there are at least three Insiders, and one Insider is supported by every other Insider, the supported Insider achieves victory. Achieving victory in this manner is called “winning by consensus.” If at any time there is exactly one Insider, that Insider achieves victory. Achieving victory in this manner is called “winning by default”. If at any time there are no Insiders, all Outsiders immediately become Insiders. This is called a Coup.
Prize Fund
There is a Prize Fund, which reflects how much money the winner will get when they win the game. The Host may change the value of the Prize Fund at any time by publishing a Story Post stating the new value and explaining the reason for the change; its value is tracked in those Story Posts.
The Bunker
The Reality TV bunker is divided into several rooms, each monitored by hidden CCTV cameras. These rooms are:-
- Lounge
- Kitchen
- Bathroom
- Gym
- Diary Room
- Bedroom
- Indoor Garden
- Basement
- Reward Room
- Control Room
Each Insider occupies a single room, as tracked in the GNDT under the column “Location”, and begins in the Lounge. (Outsiders have their Location value set to ‘Outside’, and are not considered to be in any room.)
An Insider may move themselves to a different room at any time, with the exception of the Diary Room - if an Insider is already in the Diary Room, other Insiders cannot enter it. If an Insider is in the Diary Room or the Bathroom and their Location has not changed in the last 24 hours, any Insider may move them to the Lounge.
As a daily action, the Host may broadcast footage from the Reality TV Bunker. He does this by rolling DICEX in the GNDT, where X is the number of Rooms that exist, excluding the Control Room - the Room whose position in the list matches the rolled result is filmed (excluding the Control Room). The Host then increases the Fame of each Insider in the filmed Room by 1.
If, however, the host broadcasts footage from the Diary Room he shall not increase the Fame of the Insider in that room, if any. Instead he shall increase the Fame of each Insider who had made a Diary Entry in the preceding week by 1.
Host
The Host can be in the Control Room.
Go Fish
When a Contestant’s Location is set to ‘Lounge’, as a weekly action, that Contestant may play the card game ‘Go Fish’. The Contestant makes a post to the blog entitled ‘Y’s Go Fish’ where Y is the name of that Contestant. In the post, the Contestant includes one and only one number from 1 to 13, inclusive. Each Contestant may make a comment to the post once with a For icon symbolising that they have ‘Gone Fishing’. Upon making the comment, that Contestant rolls DICE13 in the GNDT. If that Contestant rolls the same number that is in the post, that Contestant increases their own Luck by 1. When the number of For votes reaches Quorum, the Contestant who played ‘Go Fish’ may increase their Fame by 1 once.
Hell's Kitchen
When a Contestant’s Location is set to ‘Kitchen’, as a daily action, that Contestant may Cook. The Contestant makes a post to the blog entitled ‘Z’s Cooking’ where Z is the name of that Contestant. In the post, the Contestant may include the name or description of the dish cooked (Contestant’s choice, bearing in mind the ingredients available). Each Contestant may make a comment to the post once with a For icon indicating that they are Eating the Cooking of Z. Upon making the comment, that Contestant may change their own Support value to Z, or their own Vote value to Z, even if this violates frequency restrictions on changing Support and Vote values as stated in other rules. When the number of For votes reaches Quorum, if they have not already done so, the Contestant who Cooked may increase their own Fame by 1.
More Cessna, Please
Within 24 hours of a Contestant making an Eating action, any Contestant (including the Host) may make a Weight Gain action on the Contestant who made the Eating action (referred to as the Eater) by rolling DICE15: if the result is less than the Looks of the Eater, the Eater’s Looks are reduced by one. Only a single Weight Gain action may be made on an Eater in response to each Eating action by that Eater.
Bathing
Whenever a Contestant is in the Bathroom, as a weekly action, that Contestant may “Bathe” by making a comment in the GNDT of “Bathing” and a roll of DICE10. The Contestant then takes the roll to the ‘Bathing Effects Table’ below. If the dice roll is 1, the effect in the row titled ‘1’ is applied; if the dice roll is between 2 and 5 inclusive, the effect in the row titled ‘2-5’ is applied; if the dice roll is 6 or 7, the effect in the row titled ‘6-7’ is applied; if the dice roll is 8 or 9, the effect in the row titled ‘8-9’ is applied; and if the dice roll is 10, the effect in the row titled ‘10’ is applied.
Bathing Effects Table:
1 The Contestant, after bathing, is in a good mood and decides to clean the Bathroom. The Contestant may increase their own Fame by 2, but must reduce their Looks by 1. 2-5 The Contestant is cleaner. They may increase their own Looks by 1. 6-7 Bathing does wonders for the Contestant’s image; they may increase their own Looks by 3. 8-9 Out of soap. Nothing happens. 10 The Contestant’s singing annoys the other Contestants. The Bathing Contestant must reduce their own Fame by 1.
Exercise Regime
As a daily action, a Contestant in the Gym may exercise by making a comment in the GNDT of “Exercising” and a roll of DICE7. If the result of the roll is equal to or smaller than the number of times the Contestant has exercised in the past 7 days, their Looks are increased by 1.
Dear Diary
If a Contestant is in the Diary Room he may make a diary entry by making a post on the main page with the title “Diary Entry - “mm/dd” “Name"” where “mm/dd” is the month and date of the post as recorded in the sidebar and “Name” is that Contestant’s name. The body of the post should describe something that happened to the Contestant during the day and/or how the Contestant is feeling. After making a diary entry the contestant must change his location to some room other than the Diary Room and may not set his location to the Diary Room again for 72 hours.
Diary Room Footage
There exists a wiki document called “Diary Entries” which contains a chronologically ordered list (for oldest to newest) of Diary Entries and nothing else. At any time, if the content of a Diary Entry post does not exist in the Diary Entries document, any Contestant may add the content of said post to the document, as long as the chronological order of the posts is maintained within the document. This document may not be modified in any other manner.
Deep Sleep
Whenever a Contestant has been in the Bedroom for 6 consecutive hours or more (and is still in the Bedroom), as a weekly action, that Contestant may “Sleep” by making a comment in the GNDT of “Sleeping” and a roll of DICE10. The Contestant then takes the roll to the ‘Sleep Effects Table’ below. If the dice roll is 1, the effect in the row titled ‘1’ is applied; if the dice roll is between 2 and 5 inclusive, the effect in the row titled ‘2-5’ is applied; if the dice roll is 6 or 7, the effect in the row titled ‘6-7’ is applied; if the dice roll is 8 or 9, the effect in the row titled ‘8-9’ is applied; and if the dice roll is 10, the effect in the row titled ‘10’ is applied.
Sleep Effects Table:
- 1 The Contestant gets just enough Beauty Sleep; they may increase their own Looks by 1.
- 2-5 The Contestant enjoys getting a good night’s rest. Nothing happens.
- 6-7 The Contestant has a fantastic rest away from the craziness of the bunker. The Contestant increases their own Luck by 1.
- 8-9 The Contestant has a vivid Dream. If the Contestant discusses this Dream in their next Diary Entry, then they may increase *their Fame by 1 after making that Diary Entry.
- 10 The Contestant has a Nightmare. They reduce their Luck by 1, unless this would reduce their Luck below 0, in which case they *reduce their Looks by 1 (to a minimum of 0).
Picking Fruit
When a Contestant’s Location is set to ‘Indoor Garden’, as a weekly action, that Contestant may ‘Pick Fruit’. The Contestant makes a post to the blog entitled ‘Y’s Fruit Picking’ where Y is the name of that Contestant. The post must detail the type of fruit, obtained by rolling ‘FRUIT’ in the GNDT, that the Contestant has found. Each Contestant may make a comment to the post once with a For icon symbolising that they have ‘Eaten Fruit’. Upon making the comment, that Contestant rolls DICE10 in the GNDT, and takes the roll to the ‘Fruit Effects Table’ below,if the dice roll is 1, the effect in the row titled ‘1’ is applied, if the dice roll is between 2 and 5 inclusive, the effect in the row titled ‘2-5’ is applied, if the dice roll is 6 or 7, the effect in the row titled ‘6-7’ is applied, If the dice roll is 8 or 9, the effect in the row titled ‘8-9’ is applied, and if the dice roll is 10, the effect in the row titled ‘10’ is applied . When the number of For votes reaches Quorum, if they have not already done so, the Contestant who Picked Fruit may increase their Fame by 1.
Fruit Effects Table:
1 The Contestant has a hyper rush, and can perform one daily action of their choice one more time that day than they would otherwise be able to”
2-5 The Contestant enjoys eating the tasty fruit. Nothing happens.
6-7 The Contestant eats the fruit, and has a hallucination. The Contestant increases their own Fame by 1
8-9 The Contestant eats the fruit, and has an epiphany. The Contestant may change their Support.
10 The Contestant eats poisoned fruit, and has an upset tummy. The Contestant must change the Location statistic of any Contestant in the Bathroom to the Lounge, and change their own location to the Bathroom.
Rotten Fruit
Whenever a Contestant has “Eaten Fruit” by commenting on a post more than 168 hours (1 week) after it was created, that Contestant treats their next DICE roll for the Fruit Effects Table as if it were a 10.
Blognomican Hat Dance
Whenever a Contestant has been in the Basement for 6 consecutive hours or more (and is still in the Basement), as a weekly action, that Contestant may perform a “Hat Dance.” The Contestant makes a post to the blog entitled ‘Y’s Hat Dance’ where Y is the name of that Contestant. Each Contestant may make a comment to the post once with a For icon symbolising that they have ‘Danced the Dance.’ Upon making the comment, that Contestant rolls DICE3 in the GNDT and increases their own Looks by that amount once. The Contestant may also change their Hat to the Hat above theirs on the Hat List one time, even if this contradicts the Rule titled “Coloured Hats.” When the number of For votes reaches Quorum, it is a “Fiesta!,” and if they have not already done so, all Contestants who Danced the Dance may increase their own Fame by 1. The Contestant who performed the Hat Dance may once increase their own Fame by 2 instead of 1 if they Danced the Dance.
Hats All Around
Contestants who are Bare cannot perform a Hat Dance. If a Contestant who is Bare Dances the Dance, they may change their own Hat to Red once in the hour after they Danced the Dance.
Some People Have All the Luck
As a weekly action, any contestant who is in the Reward Room may make a comment to the GNDT stating that they are “Getting Lucky”. They may then roll DICE3 and add the resulting number to their Luck once.
Taking Over the Controls
Any Insider who has been in the Control Room continuously for 6 hours can do filming as if he was the Host. This is only legal if the Host could legally do filming at that moment; and it counts as the Host’s filming for that day. For the purpose of rules such as ‘Putting Luck to Good Use’, the random dice rolls rolled by that Insider in order to do filming as if he was the Host count as rolls by that Contestant, not as rolls by the Host.
Running the Late Night Circuit
As a weekly action, an Outsider may “Appear on a Late Night TV Show” if their Fame is less than 5. To do this, the Outsider makes a Comment in the GNDT of “Conan” and a roll of DICE2. They may then increase their Fame score by the DICE roll’s result, to a maximum of 5 Fame.
Glossary
This is always at the end of the Ruleset. Its only effect can be to clarify ambiguity.
- It is noted that where a Proposal would amend the effects of Proposal Enactment, this does not apply to its own enactment unless explicitly stated (eg. a proposal proposing that enacted proposals earn their author a banana when enacted would not earn a banana for its own author, when enacted).
- Rules which trigger upon the Enactment or Failure of a Proposal are the responsibility of the Admin who Enacts or Fails it.

- A keyword defined by a rule supersedes the normal English usage of the word. A keyword defined in this glossary supersedes that defined by a rule. (eg. A rule specifying "Bananas are Blue" cannot be overruled by posting a dictionary definition or a photo of a banana, and a rule specifying "every day is Sunday" will be overruled by the glossary entry below.)
- Unless otherwise specified, game variables defined to hold numeric values can hold only non-negative integers, and any action that would set those values below zero instead sets them to zero. Any situation which would require a roll of DiceX when X is zero or lower always yields a value of 0 unless stated otherwise.
- Unless otherwise specified: When "X" is a number, to spend X of a numeric value "V" means to subtract X from V (i.e. replace V with V-X); no action may be taken which requires spending X of a numeric value when the subtraction would result in a number which is illegal as a replacement for that value (e.g. if the value represents a variable which is restricted to non-negative integers, but the subtraction comes up negative).
- Superficial differences between the spelling of geographic versions of English, e.g, British English, American English and Australian English shall be construed as irrelevant for the purposes of play.

Flavor Text
- When posting a blog entry, a Contestant may use the “Commentary or flavour text” field of the blog publishing form to add their own comments or description of their post. For the purposes of all other rules, such text is not considered to be part of the post.
Timespans
- References to "a day" (as an entity rather than a duration, eg. "Sunday") refer to that day in the timezone of the BlogNomic blog, which is considered to be GMT for all purposes.
- References to a "week" refer to the period of time between the start of a Monday and the end of the following Sunday.
- All references to time must be either specific or defined within the ruleset to be considered achievable in the gamestate. Abstract concepts of time (e.g. "dinnertime", "twilight") cannot be achieved until they fulfil one of these criteria.
- If a game action is a Daily Action, each Contestant able to perform it may take that action once per day, but not more than once every six hours.
- If a game action is a Weekly Action, each Contestant able to perform it may take that action once per week, but not more than once every twenty-four hours.
- Calendar Dates shall be represented in dd/mm/yy (day/month/year) format.
- For the purpose of all rules, time in Blognomic is in GMT.
- Any duration reference to a given day (i.e. “Sunday” or “August 2nd"), unless otherwise stated, inclusively begins at 0:00:00 GMT on the mentioned day and inclusively ends at 23:59:59 GMT on the same day.
Keywords
- Quorum is equal to half the number of Contestants, rounded down, plus one. If a Rule or other Gamestate document refers to a Quorum of some subset of Contestants (such as a Quorum of Contestants who share a particular Gamestate attribute, but excluding all other Contestants) then Quorum is equal to half the number of Contestants who share that Gamestate attribute, rounded down, plus one.
