Asynchronous text games are very different from in-person BotC. In-game days can last several days in real life, so games last much longer (roughly 1-3 weeks) and players have a lot of time to analyse information and discuss. In order to balance this out, private conversations are purposefully limited.

=== Private chats ===
 +
* Each day, there will be a public "town square" thread. You may talk freely here.
 +
* Each day, you have a number of private chats available (starting with 3, but I may reduce this as the games on). When you enter a private chat, announce it in the town square (e.g. "Starting chat with Kate (1/3)").
 +
* A private chat should be a Discord group DM and must also include me. (To faciliate this, everyone will need to be Discord friends. Please set this up now.)
 +
* While a chat is ongoing, you may observe conversations in the town square, but you may not post there.
 +
* When the chat ends, announce so in the town square.
 +
* Once the chat ends, you may not re-read - only any private notes you might have taken. (This is unenforceable, so please act with integrity.)
 +
* Once nominations open, you may not start any new private chats.
 +
 +
=== Whispers ===
 +
* Each day, you may "whisper" up to 15 words in a DM to each of your immediate neighbours (clockwise and anticlockwise) in the Grimoire. This can be a single message or split into multiple messages. This doesn't need to be announced in the town square, and may happen while nominations are open. However, you cannot whisper during a private chat or during the night. Whisper DMs must still include me.
 +
* Once during the game, the Demon may instruct me to whisper a single message of up to 15 words on their behalf to one other player. This message will be delivered anonymously.
 +
* The definition of a "word" is up to my discretion. Previous rulings I will abide by include that a standard emoji is one word, and that a common internet abbreviation like "TBH" is one word.
 +
 +
=== Voting ===
 +
* Once nominations are open, you can tag me in the town square to nominate a player. I will start a new thread for the vote and invite the nominator/nominee to prosecute/defend. Then, I will list each player who can vote in voting order. Vote by reacting to your name with FOR or AGAINST.
 +
* I will move down the list locking in votes as they come in. Once your vote is locked in, you can't change it.
 +
* You can leave a conditional vote to base your vote on previous votes without having to be online when I reach you. To do this, react to your name with DEF, then post the condition in the thread.
 +
* You can leave a false vote in public and DM me with your true vote, which I will (publicly) lock in when I reach you. Note that as there is no Butler on this script, there is no reason for a good player to ever do this.
 +
* Don't use the voting thread for anything except the voting process.
 +
* (TBD) You may nominate while another nomination is open. I will queue the nomination and action it when the previous vote has finished.
 +
 +
=== Miscellaneous rules ===
 +
* You can freely consult me in DMs at any time. As this script doesn't contain a role like the Artist or Savant, you don't need to announce this in the town square.
 +
* Do not copy-paste, screenshot or link to any private message, with me or any other player.
 +
* Do not edit your messages except to correct inconsequential typos.
 +
* When talking with other players outside the game, please be careful not to say anything that risks revealing unauthorised information. "BlogNomic BotC is really exciting, I'm enjoying it!" is fine. "I'm wondering if this is an Atheist game" is not.

Rules

Asynchronous text games are very different from in-person BotC. In-game days can last several days in real life, so games last much longer (roughly 1-3 weeks) and players have a lot of time to analyse information and discuss. In order to balance this out, private conversations are purposefully limited.

Private chats

  • Each day, there will be a public "town square" thread. You may talk freely here.
  • Each day, you have a number of private chats available (starting with 3, but I may reduce this as the games on). When you enter a private chat, announce it in the town square (e.g. "Starting chat with Kate (1/3)").
  • A private chat should be a Discord group DM and must also include me. (To faciliate this, everyone will need to be Discord friends. Please set this up now.)
  • While a chat is ongoing, you may observe conversations in the town square, but you may not post there.
  • When the chat ends, announce so in the town square.
  • Once the chat ends, you may not re-read - only any private notes you might have taken. (This is unenforceable, so please act with integrity.)
  • Once nominations open, you may not start any new private chats.

Whispers

  • Each day, you may "whisper" up to 15 words in a DM to each of your immediate neighbours (clockwise and anticlockwise) in the Grimoire. This can be a single message or split into multiple messages. This doesn't need to be announced in the town square, and may happen while nominations are open. However, you cannot whisper during a private chat or during the night. Whisper DMs must still include me.
  • Once during the game, the Demon may instruct me to whisper a single message of up to 15 words on their behalf to one other player. This message will be delivered anonymously.
  • The definition of a "word" is up to my discretion. Previous rulings I will abide by include that a standard emoji is one word, and that a common internet abbreviation like "TBH" is one word.

Voting

  • Once nominations are open, you can tag me in the town square to nominate a player. I will start a new thread for the vote and invite the nominator/nominee to prosecute/defend. Then, I will list each player who can vote in voting order. Vote by reacting to your name with FOR or AGAINST.
  • I will move down the list locking in votes as they come in. Once your vote is locked in, you can't change it.
  • You can leave a conditional vote to base your vote on previous votes without having to be online when I reach you. To do this, react to your name with DEF, then post the condition in the thread.
  • You can leave a false vote in public and DM me with your true vote, which I will (publicly) lock in when I reach you. Note that as there is no Butler on this script, there is no reason for a good player to ever do this.
  • Don't use the voting thread for anything except the voting process.
  • (TBD) You may nominate while another nomination is open. I will queue the nomination and action it when the previous vote has finished.

Miscellaneous rules

  • You can freely consult me in DMs at any time. As this script doesn't contain a role like the Artist or Savant, you don't need to announce this in the town square.
  • Do not copy-paste, screenshot or link to any private message, with me or any other player.
  • Do not edit your messages except to correct inconsequential typos.
  • When talking with other players outside the game, please be careful not to say anything that risks revealing unauthorised information. "BlogNomic BotC is really exciting, I'm enjoying it!" is fine. "I'm wondering if this is an Atheist game" is not.
