Core Rules

Ruleset and Gamestate

This is the Ruleset for BlogNomic; all Tourists shall obey it. Section One consists of the "core rules" of BlogNomic, covering basic proposal mechanics; Section Two contains the rules of the current dynasty; and Section Three contains the glossary, which exists solely to clarify the remainder of the ruleset. Rules may be referred to by their type, entire number and name or type and name. (e.g. This Rule may be referred to as Rule 1.1 Ruleset and Gamestate or the Rule entitled “Ruleset and Gamestate").

The Ruleset and Gamestate can only be altered in manners specified by the Ruleset.

Admins may correct obvious spelling and typographical mistakes in the Ruleset at any time, including replacing Spivak pronouns with the singular "they". A typographical mistake is defined as “A mistake in printing, typesetting, or typing, especially one caused by striking an incorrect key on a keyboard.”

Tourists

Anybody may apply to join BlogNomic (if he is not already playing) by registering at http://blognomic.com via the Register link in the sidebar, and then making a post announcing his arrival. An Admin shall add him to the roster in the sidebar and the GNDT, at which moment he becomes a Tourist.

A Tourist may leave the game at any time by posting an entry to the BlogNomic weblog requesting such an action. A Tourist may only change his name as a result of a proposal approving the change.

Some Tourists are Admins, responsible for updating the site and the Ruleset, and are signified as such in the sidebar. Tourists who wish to become Admins may sign up with a username for the Ruleset Wiki, and submit a Proposal to make themselves Admins. Existing Admins may be removed from their posts by Proposal, CfJ, or voluntary resignation. New admins shall be given the GNDT configuration password when they become admins.

Some Tourists are Idle, and shall be marked as such in the sidebar. For the purposes of the Ruleset, excluding Rules 1.1, 1.2 and 1.8, Idle Tourists are not counted as Tourists. Admins may render a Tourist Idle if that Tourist has asked to become Idle or if that Tourist has not posted an entry or comment for more than 7 days. In the latter case, the Admin must announce the idling in a blog post. Admins may de-Idle a Tourist at his request - the Tourist's personal gamestate retains the values it had immediately prior to his going Idle. If one or more values would be undefined, it is set to the value new Tourists receive, if such a value exists.

Proposals

Any Tourist may submit a Proposal to change the Ruleset or Gamestate, by posting an entry in the "Proposal" category that describes those changes (unless the Tourist already has 2 Proposals pending, or has already made 3 Proposals that day).

Proposals can either be Pending, Enacted, or Failed. When a Proposal is first put forward, it is considered Pending.

Voting

Any Tourist may cast his Vote on a Pending Proposal by making a comment on that entry using a voting icon of FOR, AGAINST or DEFERENTIAL.

If the Tourist who made a Proposal has not cast a Vote on it, his Vote is counted as FOR. If a Tourist uses more than one Voting Icon in comments on a Pending Proposal, his Vote is the last voting icon he uses. If a Tourist leaves the game or goes Idle, his Vote is no longer valid. If a Tourist votes against his own proposal, that vote may not be changed. This is referred to as a Self-Kill.

A vote of DEFERENTIAL is a vote of no opinion, or of faith in the decision of the Tour Guide. The vote will count as the same as the Tour Guide's vote. If the Tour Guide casts a vote of DEFERENTIAL on a proposal, it serves the purpose of cancelling any previous vote on that proposal that was cast by the Tour Guide. If there is no Tour Guide, a vote of DEFERENTIAL counts as an explicit vote of abstention.

If no Tour Guide has voted on a proposal, a vote of DEFERENTIAL on that proposal does not count as a vote for the purposes of rule 1.5.

Enactment

The oldest pending Proposal may be enacted by any Admin (and the Ruleset and/or Gamestate updated to include the specified effects of that Proposal) if either of the following is true:-

  • It has a number of FOR votes that exceed or equal Quorum, has been open for voting for at least 12 hours, and has not been vetoed or self-killed.
  • It has been open for voting for at least 48 hours, it has more than 1 valid vote, more than half of its votes are FOR, and it has not been vetoed or self-killed.

The oldest pending Proposal may be failed by any Admin, if any of the following are true:-

  • It has enough AGAINST votes that it could not be Enacted without one of those votes being changed.
  • It has been open for voting for at least 48 hours and half or fewer of its votes are FOR.
  • It has been open for voting for at least 48 hours and has fewer than 2 valid votes.
  • The Tourist who proposed it has voted AGAINST it.

Whenever an Admin marks a proposal as enacted or failed, he must also mark his name, and report the final tally of votes (or the fact that the proposal was self-killed or vetoed).

Proposals the Tour Guide has voted to VETO are considered vetoed. Proposals the author has voted against are considered self-killed unless the Tour Guide has voted VETO on them, or they have fulfilled one of the other requirements to fail a proposal before the author’s self-kill vote is placed.

When Tour Guide votes to VETO a Proposal, any Admin may fail that Proposal from that moment on, even if it is not the oldest Pending proposal.

Calls for Judgment

If two or more Tourists actively disagree as to the interpretation of the Ruleset, or if a Tourist feels that an aspect of the game needs urgent attention, then any Tourist may raise a Call for Judgment (abbreviated CfJ) by posting an entry in the “Call for Judgment” category. The post shall go on to describe the issue, and measures that shall be taken to resolve it.

All Tourist may add votes of agreement or disagreement in comments to this entry, using appropriate voting icons (a Tourist's later votes overriding their earlier ones). Unfailed CfJs continue until they reach a quorum of FOR votes, a quorum of AGAINST votes, or if there is no hiatus going on, until four days have passed, and if there is a hiatus going on until two days have passed. After this time, if more than half of the cast votes are in favour, the Gamestate and Ruleset shall be amended as was specified. Otherwise, the CfJ fails. A Failed CfJ has no further effect.

Any CfJ that has no effect on the ruleset or gamestate may be automatically failed by any admin.

Gamestate Tracking

Proposals, Calls for Judgment, and other official posts, as well as specific gamestate information, shall be tracked by the BlogNomic blog at http://blognomic.com. Any Tourist may post to the blog at any time, but may only make official posts to the blog when the Ruleset allows it. Posts following the format specified by a rule are considered official posts.

If no Tourist has commented on it, an official post may be altered or removed by its author; otherwise this can only be done as allowed by the Ruleset. The Admin processing an official post is allowed to append to the post to reflect its new status. Anything appended to a post in this way must be placed in the Admin field of the post, and the post's Status must changed to reflect its status.

A non-official post may not, through editing of the blog or otherwise, be changed into an official post, with the following exception: Whilst a non-official post has been posted for less than five minutes and has no comments, the author may change the categories as they wish.

Voting and comments are accessible through the link at the bottom of every post.

Specific parts of the Gamestate data shall be tracked by the Generic Nomic Data Tracker at http://blognomic.com/gndt/generic.cgi?nomic=blog. Any Tourist may update any Tourist's data via the GNDT, whenever the Ruleset permits it.

All updates to the GNDT are logged - if a Tourist feels that an alteration goes against the Rules (as they were at the time of the alteration), he may simply undo the effects of that alteration. If such an undoing is disputed, a Call for Judgment shall be raised.

Tourists shall be assigned a password for the GNDT when they join the Nomic.

Dynasties

BlogNomic is divided into a number of Dynasties. Each Dynasty is headed by a single Tourist, known as the Tour Guide, and is named according to the number of Dynasties he has headed (eg. "The First Dynasty of Myke").

The Tour Guide may vote to VETO any Proposal.

Victory and Ascension

If a Tourist (other than the Tour Guide) believes that he has achieved victory in the current Dynasty, he may make a post to the Blognomic weblog in the Declaration of Victory category, detailing this.

Upon doing so, the game immediately goes into Hiatus, if it hasn’t already. During this time, the only game actions that may be taken are those covered by Rules “Tourists”, “Calls for Judgment”, “Gamestate Tracking” and “Victory and Ascension”.

Every Tourist may respond to an active DoV saying whether or not he believes the poster has achieved victory in the current Dynasty (using the FOR and AGAINST icons).

The Declaration of Victory may be resolved after 24 hours, or after 12 hours if the Tour Guide has voted on it. Upon resolution, if a Quorum of Tourists have voted on the DoV and more than half of those votes were in favour, then the DoV passes - otherwise the DoV fails, and if no other DoVs are still pending, the Hiatus ends.

When a DoV passes, all other active DoVs are failed, and a new Dynasty begins with the Tourist who made the DoV as its Tour Guide. (That Tourist may pass this role to another Tourist at this point, if he wishes.) The Hiatus continues until the new Tour Guide posts an Ascension Address to the BlogNomic weblog - this shall specify the Tour Guide's chosen theme for the new Dynasty, and may optionally include a proclamation that any number of Dynastic Rules will be repealed, and that any keywords will be replaced with new theme-appropriate terms.

A DoV may not be started in the period between a passing DoV and that DoV’s Ascension Address. When a DoV is failed, if it has a number of AGAINST votes that exceed Quorum, the Tourist who posted it cannot make another DoV until after 120 hours (5 days) have passed since the time their DoV was failed.

A Declaration of Victory may not also be any other type of Official Post unless the rules concerning that type of Official Post explicitly state otherwise.

Fair Play

The following are BlogNomic’s rules of fair play. If any of the rules are found to have been broken, a proposal or CfJ may be made to remove the perpetrator from the game, and bar them from rejoining.

  • A single person should not control more than one Tourist within BlogNomic.
  • A Tourist should not “spam” the BlogNomic blog. What counts as spamming is subjective, but would typically include posting more than ten blog entries in a day, more than ten blog comments in a row, or posting a blog entry of more than 1000 words.
  • A Tourist should not deliberately exploit bugs or unexpected behaviours in the software running the game (ExpressionEngine, MediaWiki or the GNDT).
  • Instead of deleting content from a blog post which has at least one comment, the content should either be struck through with <strike> tags, or replaced with a link to a copy of the same content on the wiki.
  • A Tourist should not edit their own blog comments once posted, nor those of any other Tourist.
  • A Tourist should not edit the "Entry Date" field of a blog post.
  • A Tourist should not make or edit a post such that its title does not broadly match its URL title.
  • A Tourist should not make a DoV primarily to delay the game by putting it into Hiatus.

Dynastic Rules

G-Man

For the purposes of Dynastic Rules which do not explicitly state otherwise, the Tour Guide is not considered a Tourist.

Enjoyment

All statistics have a default value of 0 unless otherwise stated. Every Tourist has the following statistics, tracked in the GNDT:

  • Stress. This can be any integer between 0 and 20, inclusively.
  • Tan. This can be any integer between 0 and 20, inclusively.
  • Tourism. This represents how much of the Caribbean they feel they have experienced. It can be any non-negative integer.
  • Boat. This represents whether the Tourist is on a Boat or not. The legal values are “Yes” meaning that the Tourist is on a Boat and “No” meaning that the Tourist is, sadly, on land. The default value is No.

Too Much of a Good Thing Is Not a Bad Thing

If an action would ever reduce a Tourist or Tour Guide’s statistic to a value that is less than 0, reduce that value to 0 instead.

Shine!

There exist 120 shine sprites which have been scattered across the island. Shine sprites are tracked in a GNDT column called "Shine Sprites". Each tourist has a non-negative number of shine sprites and starts with zero. The tour guide begins with 120 shine sprites. The total number of shine sprites owned by all tourists, the Princess, Wilson and the tour guide must always be 120. No action can taken which causes the sum to be different from 120, unless this rule is repealed at the same time. When a tourist goes idle, their shine sprite total is added to the tour guide's shine sprite total and their shine sprites are set to zero.

The Princess

There exists an entity called “The Princess” which is listed in the GNDT as if it where a Tourist. The Princess cannot take any actions unless the rules explicitly state so on each of those actions. In those cases, that rule must determine which Tourist shall be the one that must make the appropriate gamestate changes (including making posts, modifying the GNDT or rolling dice) to complete that action. Those actions must always be clearly labeled as performed by The Princess.

She is in another castle

Whenever a Tourist “Gets on a Boat”, “Takes a tour of the Island”, “Chooses to Tan”, “Beach Combs” or “Attends a Caribbean dance and dinner”, they may opt to “Take the Princess with them” as well. This may only be performed if no other Tourist has successfully taken the Princess with them in the past 6 hours. That tourist makes a comment of “Taking the Princess” in the GNDT and a roll of DICE3.

On a 1, the Princess is nowhere to be found (and the action is not considered successful). On a 2 or 3 (which are considered successful), the Princess goes with the Tourist, and performs the same action that e performed (that Tourist adjusts the gamestate on her behalf per rule 2.4; if the Princess has to make a decision to complete that action, that Tourist also makes those decisions). On a 3, the Princess has a really great time and transfers 1 Shine Sprite she owns to that Tourist (this tourist performs the transfer on her behalf), but only if she has at least 1 Shine Sprite.

Shine Sprites

Reward

Whenever a proposal passes with the Tour Guide voting on the proposal without including the phrase “Non-Tour Activities”, the tourist that authored the proposal may once, within 48 hours of the proposal passing, reduce the Tour Guide's Shine Sprites by 1 and increase their own Shine Sprites by one.

A Burst of Flavour

When voting on proposals which have flavour text, a Tourist may include an arrow icon () with their vote; they should do this if and only if they like the proposal’s flavour text, or think that the proposal’s flavour text is in keeping with the spirit of the dynasty. If, when a proposal is enacted , a quorum of counted votes on it contain arrow icons, the Tourist who proposed it may once within 48 hours increase their own Tourism by 3.

Homeward Bound

A tourist that has a Perfect Tan, has Seen the Sights, has a Plane Ticket, and is Stress Free, is considered to be finished with their vacation and has achieved victory.

A Perfect Tan

A Tourist is considered to have a “Perfect Tan” when they have a Tan score of 15, no more and no less.

Sightseeing

A Tourist is considered to have “Seen the Sights” when they have a Tourism score of 30 or higher.

Stress Free

A Tourist is considered to be “Stress Free” when they have a Stress score of 0.

Plane Ticket

There exists a value, “Plane Ticket”. This is tracked in the GNDT, and it’s legal values are “Yes” and “No”. Any tourist with at least $250 can purchase a Plane Ticket at any time. To purchase the ticket, the Tourist decreases their money by 250 and changes their GNDT Plane Ticket to “Yes”. A tourist may not purchase a Plane Ticket if their Plane Ticket value is already “Yes”.

Non-Tourist Characters

If The Princess or Wilson ever fulfills the above victory conditions, repeal all dynastic rules and start a new dynasty with no Tour Guide. This dynasty will be called “The Fifth Metadynasty.”

Breath Deeply

Whenever a Proposal fails, the Admin who fails that Proposal shall increase the Stress of the author of that Proposal by 1 exactly once, due to the author being annoyed at failing. As a weekly action, a Tourist may “Count to Ten” by rolling DICE10 in the GNDT followed by a comment of “Counting...”. Then, if the result of the roll is equal to or higher than the Stress of that Tourist, the Tourist relaxes and decreases their Stress by that amount. Otherwise, the Tourist grits their teeth and fumbles but is still stressed out afterward.

Fed-ex delivers

There exists an entity called “Wilson” which is listed in the GNDT as if it where a Tourist. Wilson is a volleyball and cannot take any actions unless the rules explicitly state so on each of those actions. In those cases, that rule must determine which Tourist shall be the one that must make the appropriate gamestate changes (including making posts, modifying the GNDT or rolling dice) to complete that action. Those actions must always be clearly labeled as performed by Wilson.

As a daily action, a tourist may talk with Wilson. To do this, he makes a story post detailing his conversation with the volleyball. If, after four hours, no other tourist has commented on the post within the four hours after the post was made, the tourist who posted it may reduce their stress by one exactly once. If this would make their stress below zero, it is instead set to zero. He must do this within forty eight hours of making the original post or not do it at all. However, within four hours of the post being made, any other tourist may make a comment on the post, provided no tourist other than the one who made the original post has commented on it. After doing so, the tourist must increase the tourist who made the original post’s stress by two exactly once. If this would make their stress above twenty, it is instead set to twenty.

As a weekly action, a tourist may attempt to drown Wilson. To do this, he makes a post announcing that he is drowning Wilson. After twelve hours, if no other tourist makes a comment on this post, the tourist who made the post may replace this entire rule with “NAME is a big fat jerk” where NAME is their own in-game name. If no other tourist has already done so, any other tourist may comment on the post and then must immediately increase their own stress by three. If this would make their stress an illegal value they may not do this.

I'm on a Boat

As a weekly action, a Tourist may “Get on a Boat.” To do so, the Tourist changes their Boat statistic to Yes, increases their Tourism by 2, and increases their Tan and Stress by 1. A Tourist may depart from the Boat at any time by changing their Boat statistic to No. If a Tourist departs from the Boat without having been on it continuously for the preceding 6 hours, that Tourist must decrease their Tan by 1 (as their tanning lotion washes off).

Nice Boat

As a daily action, if and only if The Princess has a Stress equal to or greater than 10, The Princess may relieve her stress by gently poking a Tourist. To do so, first the Princess may get off the Boat if she is riding it (but this is optional, not mandatory) by setting her Boat statistic to No. Then, the Princess rolls DICEX in the GNDT, where X is the number of other Tourists (known as the possible victims) that have the same Boat value as her. The Princess then proceeds to gently poke the Tourist whose position in the GNDT, amongst possible victims, matches the result of the roll.

For example, if the Princess rolls a 3, the third Tourist (other than herself) in GNDT order, from those which have a Boat value equal to her own, gets gently poked.

When a Tourist gets gently poked by the Princess, e has to invite the Princess to eat a nice dinner in a remote exotic location to avoid being poked in a less gentle manner. The Princess reduces her Stress by 1 for each $10 the gently poked Tourist has, and then that Tourist spends $10 for each Stress point the Princess lost this way. Afterwards, any Stress remaining on the Princess gets transfered to the gently poked Tourist. Finally, that Tourist increases their Tourism by 1 for each $30 spent this way, thanks to visiting a really nice exotic location for dinner.

Any Tourist that can perform this action on behalf of the Princess (and also make any of the required choices associated with the action they perform on her behalf), but each Tourist may not do so more than once each week.

The Island

Any Tourist whose Boat Statistic is set to No may, as a weekly action, attempt to take a tour of the island. To do this they roll 1DICE20. If the result is higher than their current tourism then their tourism is increased by 1, if the result is lower than their tourism, then the Tourist has seen no new aspects of the island and their stress is increased by 1.

Money

There exists for each Tourist a statistic called “Money”. This is a number, tracked and displayed by the GNDT in $ to 2 decimal places (e.g. “$27.00"). The smallest individual unit of Money possible is $0.01, which cannot be split up any further. The default value for new and unidling Tourists is $50.00

Exploring

As a weekly action, the Tour Guide may make a story post to the blog, titled “Exploring X”, where X is equal to the number of Exploring posts previously made by the Tour Guide, plus one. The body of the post shall state a theme. For a period of 120 hours after the Tour Guide has made the posts, Tourists may comment to the post, following the theme of the post. The comments should be as “flavourful” as possible. After the 120 hour period has elapsed, the Tour Guide may select what he believes to be the best comment, and increase the Tourism of the Tourist who authored that comment by 2.

Tanning

As a weekly action, but no more frequently than once every 24 hours, any Tourist may choose to Tan. To do this, they roll DICE5 in the GNDT with a comment of “Tanning” and add it to their Tan statistic.

Sunscreen

If a Tourist wishes, he may choose to wear sunscreen by making a comment of “Tanning with sunscreen”, instead of the usual “tanning” comment. If a Tourist wears sunscreen, they reduce the number that they increase their Tan by, to a minimum of 1. They also reduce their Money by $5.00

Staying indoors

If a Tourist has not tanned within the last 7 days, any Tourist may decrease their Tan by 2.

Sunburn

Any Tourist with a Tan of 16 or greater is Sunburned. Whenever a Tourist takes any action that raises the Tan level of a Sunburned Tourist by any number, the Tourist making the change(s) must also increase the Stress of the Sunburned Tourist by that same number.

Beach Combing

As a weekly action, a tourist may choose to beach comb. To do this, they roll DICE10 in the GNDT with a comment of “beach combing”. They then apply the result to the “Beach Combing Table”.

Beach Combing Table:

1-2: The Tourist finds a buried and angry crab. Increase their stress by 2.

3-4: The Tourist doesn’t find anything.

5-6: The Tourist is able to enjoy the sun. Increase their tan by 2.

7-8: The Tourist finds some loose change. Roll DICE40 and add the result to their money.

9-10: The Tourist finds a new wallet. Increase their money by 100; or, at the Tourist’s option, they may return the wallet to its owner and increase their Tourism by 3 (but may not increase their money).

Caribbean Scavenger Hunt

Tourists (other GNDT entities are considered Tourists for the purpose of this rule, and any Tourist may make the appropriate gamestate changes for them) have a statistic called “Progress” which is tracked in the GNDT and can only have non-negative integer values. New Tourists and unidling Tourists shall set their progress to “0” at the time they join or unidle. As a daily action, if a Tourist has “made some progress” during the past 24 hours, they may roll 2DICE6 and add the result to their Progress Statistic.

Every time a Tourist has a Progress equal to or greater than 44, that Tourist decreases their Progress by 44, then their Money is increased by $200, once.

The following list contains the conditions that determine if a Tourist is making progress.

  • Whenever one or more Shine Sprites are transferred from the Tour Guide to a Tourist, that Tourist has made some progress.
  • Whenever a Tourists successfully takes the Princess with them, the Tourist and the Princess have made some progress.
  • Whenever a Proposal that creates a rule or sub-rule is enacted, the author of that Proposal has made some progress.

Shine on you Crazy Diamond

Whenever a Tourist (or non-Tourist entity other than the Tour Guide) owns 70 or more Shine Sprites, that Tourist achieves victory.

Giving gifts

As a daily action, if a Tourist (the Giver) has three or more Shine Sprites, he may “Give a Gift” to another Tourist or The Princess (the Receiver). To do this, the Giver subtracts three Shine Sprites from his own total and adds three Shine Sprites to the Receiver’s total. The Giver and Receiver then become friends, and the Giver may once choose an integer from 1 to 3, and carry out the instructions next to that number in the Gift Table once. Gift Table: 1. Have a chat about the island: if the Receiver’s Tourism is higher than the Giver’s Tourism, the Giver rolls DICEX in the GNDT, where X is the difference between the two Tourism figures, and adds the Result to his Tourism. 2. Borrow some money: the Giver rolls DICEX in the GNDT, where X is the Receiver’s Money (rounded down to an integer), subtracts the Result from the Receiver’s Money and adds it to the Giver’s Money. 3. Unload: The Giver adds his own Stress to the Receiver’s Stress. The Giver then reduces his own Stress to zero.

Glossary

This is always at the end of the Ruleset. Its only effect can be to clarify ambiguity.

  • It is noted that where a Proposal would amend the effects of Proposal Enactment, this does not apply to its own enactment unless explicitly stated (eg. a proposal proposing that enacted proposals earn their author a banana when enacted would not earn a banana for its own author, when enacted).
  • Rules which trigger upon the Enactment or Failure of a Proposal are the responsibility of the Admin who Enacts or Fails it.
  • Appropriate Icons: For use in voting, a check box http://blognomic.com/images/vote/for.gif shall represent a vote FOR, an X http://blognomic.com/images/vote/against.gif shall represent a vote AGAINST, an IMP http://blognomic.com/images/vote/imperial.gif shall represent a vote of DEFERENTIAL, and an Imperial Seal (currently http://blognomic.com/images/vote/seal.gif) shall represent the Imperial Veto.
  • The "subject" of a blog entry is the part of the Title of an entry which is after the first colon. If the Title does not contain a colon, then the whole Title is the subject. Any entry whose subject is "" (i.e. an empty string) is not valid.
  • "Posts" and "comments" refer only to those published to the BlogNomic weblog at blognomic.com
  • A keyword defined by a rule supersedes the normal English usage of the word. A keyword defined in this glossary supersedes that defined by a rule. (eg. A rule specifying "Bananas are Blue" cannot be overruled by posting a dictionary definition or a photo of a banana, and a rule specifying "every day is Sunday" will be overruled by the glossary entry below.)
  • Unless otherwise specified, game variables defined to hold numeric values can hold only non-negative integers, and any action that would set those values below zero instead sets them to zero. Any situation which would require a roll of DiceX when X is zero or lower always yields a value of 0 unless stated otherwise.
  • Unless otherwise specified: When “X” is a number, to spend X of a numeric value “V” means to subtract X from V (i.e. replace V with V-X).
  • No action may be taken which would require setting a gamestate variable to an illegal value. (e.g. spending X of a numeric value that must be non-negative when the subtraction would result in a number which is negative).
  • Superficial differences between the spelling of geographic versions of English, e.g, British English, American English and Australian English shall be construed as irrelevant for the purposes of play.
  • Gamestate is defined as any information which the Ruleset regulates the alteration of, such as Characters’ names.
  • All numbers, unless stated otherwise by a rule, are in base ten.
  • If a new rule is created by a proposal and its location is not noted in that proposal, that new rule is to be placed in the Dynastic Rules.

Flavor Text

  • When posting a blog entry, a Tourist may use the “Commentary or flavour text” field of the blog publishing form to add their own comments or description of their post. For the purposes of all other rules, such text is not considered to be part of the post.

Timespans

  • References to "a day" (as an entity rather than a duration, eg. "Sunday") refer to that day in the timezone of the BlogNomic blog, which is considered to be GMT for all purposes.
  • References to a "week" refer to the period of time between the start of a Monday and the end of the following Sunday.
  • All references to time must be either specific or defined within the ruleset to be considered achievable in the gamestate. Abstract concepts of time (e.g. "dinnertime", "twilight") cannot be achieved until they fulfil one of these criteria.
  • If a game action is a Daily Action, each Tourist able to perform it may take that action once per day, but not more than once every six hours.
  • If a game action is a Weekly Action, each Tourist able to perform it may take that action once per week, but not more than once every twenty-four hours.
  • Calendar Dates shall be represented in dd/mm/yy (day/month/year) format.
  • For the purpose of all rules, time in Blognomic is in GMT.
  • Any duration reference to a given day (i.e. “Sunday” or “August 2nd"), unless otherwise stated, inclusively begins at 0:00:00 GMT on the mentioned day and inclusively ends at 23:59:59 GMT on the same day.

Keywords

  • Quorum is equal to half the number of Tourists, rounded down, plus one. If a Rule or other Gamestate document refers to a Quorum of some subset of Tourists (such as a Quorum of Tourists who share a particular Gamestate attribute, but excluding all other Tourists) then Quorum is equal to half the number of Tourists who share that Gamestate attribute, rounded down, plus one.
  • Tour Guide
  • Tourist

Dice

References to "YDICEX" refer to Y X-sided dice. To roll dice, post DICEX in the comments field of the GNDT, replacing X with the number of sides on the die you wish to roll.

IEEE

  • The IEEE auxiliary verbs used in Blognomic are:
    • Is required to: "shall";
    • Is recommended that: "should";
    • Is permitted to: "may";
    • Is able to: "can".
