Core Rules

Ruleset and Gamestate

This is the Ruleset for BlogNomic; all Mini Figures shall obey it. Section One consists of the "core rules" of BlogNomic, covering basic proposal mechanics; Section Two contains the rules of the current dynasty; and Section Three contains the glossary, which exists solely to clarify the remainder of the ruleset.

The Ruleset and Gamestate can only be altered in manners specified by the Ruleset.

Admins may correct obvious spelling and typographical mistakes in the Ruleset at any time, including replacing Spivak and gender-specific pronouns with the singular "they".

Mini Figures

Anybody may apply to join BlogNomic (if they are not already playing) by registering at http://blognomic.com via the Register link in the sidebar, and then making a post announcing their arrival. An Admin shall add them to the roster in the sidebar and the GNDT, at which moment they become a Mini Figure.

A Mini Figure may leave the game at any time by posting an entry to the BlogNomic weblog requesting such an action. A Mini Figure may only change their name as a result of a proposal approving the change.

Some Mini Figures are Admins, responsible for updating the site and the Ruleset, and are signified as such in the sidebar. Mini Figures who wish to become Admins may sign up with a username for the Ruleset Wiki, and submit a Proposal to make themselves Admins. Existing Admins may be removed from their posts by Proposal, CfJ, or voluntary resignation. New admins shall be given the GNDT configuration password when they become admins.

Some Mini Figures are Idle, and shall be marked as such in the sidebar. For the purposes of the Ruleset, excluding Rules 1.1, 1.2, 1.8 and 1.10, Idle Mini Figures are not counted as Mini Figures. Admins may render a Mini Figure Idle if that Mini Figure has asked to become Idle or if that Mini Figure has not posted an entry or comment in the last seven days. In the latter case, the Admin must announce the idling in a blog post. Admins may render themselves Idle at any time by announcing that they have done so in a blog post. Admins may de-Idle a Mini Figure at their request, and Idle Admins may de-idle themselves at any time, unless the idle Mini Figure in question asked to become (or rendered themselves) Idle within the previous 4 days, and within the current dynasty. The Mini Figure’s personal gamestate retains the values it had immediately prior to their going Idle. If one or more values would be undefined, it is set to the value new Mini Figures receive, if such a value exists.

Proposals

Any Mini Figure may submit a Proposal to change the Ruleset or Gamestate, by posting an entry in the "Proposal" category that describes those changes, except that:

  • A Mini Figure cannot submit a non-Core Proposal if that Mini Figure already has two or more non-Core Proposals pending.
  • A Mini Figure cannot submit a Proposal if that Mini Figure already has three or more Proposals pending.
  • A Mini Figure cannot submit a Proposal if that Mini Figure has already submitted three or more Proposals that day.

Proposals can either be Pending, Enacted, or Failed. When a Proposal is first put forward, it is considered Pending. A Proposal may not also be a Call for Judgment.

Voting

Any Mini Figure may cast their Vote on a Votable Matter by making a comment to the official post that comprises that Votable Matter using a voting icon of FOR, AGAINST, DEFERENTIAL (only if the Votable Matter is a Proposal), or VETO (only if the Votable Matter is a Proposal and the Mini Figure is the Brick Master).

If the Mini Figure who authored a Votable Matter has not cast a Vote on it, their Vote is counted as FOR. If a Mini Figure uses more than one Voting Icon in comments on a Votable Matter, their Vote is the last voting icon they use. If a Mini Figure leaves the game or goes Idle, their Vote is no longer valid. If a Mini Figure Votes against their own Proposal, this renders the Proposal self-killed and that Vote may not be changed.

A Vote of DEFERENTIAL is a Vote of no opinion, or of faith in the decision of the Brick Master. The Vote will count as the same as the Brick Master’s Vote. If the Brick Master casts a Vote of DEFERENTIAL on a Proposal, it serves the purpose of cancelling any previous Vote on that Proposal that was cast by the Brick Master and counts as an explicit Vote of abstention. If there is no Brick Master, or the Vote is made by the proposal’s author on their own proposal and the Brick Master does not Vote on it, a Vote of DEFERENTIAL counts as an explicit Vote of abstention, and has no effect except possibly to void earlier voting icons by that voter on that proposal.

If no Brick Master has Voted on a Proposal, a Vote of DEFERENTIAL on that proposal does not count as a Vote for the purposes of rule 1.5.

Resolution of Proposals

The oldest pending Proposal may be enacted by any Admin (and the Ruleset and/or Gamestate updated to include the specified effects of that Proposal) if either of the following is true:-

  • It has a number of FOR Votes that exceed or equal Quorum, has been open for voting for at least 12 hours, and has not been vetoed or self-killed.
  • It has been open for voting for at least 48 hours, it has continuously been a proposal for that time, it has more than 1 valid Vote, more than half of its Votes are FOR, and it has not been vetoed or self-killed.

The oldest pending Proposal may be failed by any Admin, if any of the following are true:-

  • It has enough AGAINST Votes that it could not be Enacted without one of those Votes being changed.
  • It has been open for voting for at least 48 hours and half or fewer of its Votes are FOR.
  • It has been open for voting for at least 48 hours and has fewer than 2 valid Votes.
  • The Mini Figure who proposed it has Voted AGAINST it.
  • The Brick Master has Voted to VETO it.

Whenever an Admin marks a proposal, CfJ, or DoV as enacted or failed, they must also mark their name, and report the final tally of Votes (or the fact that it was self-killed or vetoed).

Proposals the Brick Master has Voted to VETO are considered vetoed, and such a Vote cannot be changed. Proposals the author has Voted against are considered self-killed unless the Brick Master has Voted VETO on them, or they have fulfilled one of the other requirements to fail a proposal before the author’s self-kill Vote is placed. Immediately after enacting a proposal that causes a rule with no name to be added to the ruleset, unless the proposal specifically states that the rule should have no name, the enacting admin can change the rule’s title to give it a name, so long as doing so does not change the meaning of any part of the ruleset, nor change any properties of the rule (such as specific words in the title) that the ruleset specifically cares about.

Calls for Judgment

If two or more Mini Figures actively disagree as to the interpretation of the Ruleset, or if a Mini Figure feels that an aspect of the game needs urgent attention, then any Mini Figure may raise a Call for Judgment (abbreviated CfJ) by posting an entry in the “Call for Judgment” category. The post shall go on to describe the issue, and measures that shall be taken to resolve it.

All Mini Figures may cast Votes on that CfJ to indicate agreement or disagreement with the position taken in that CfJ. Unfailed CfJs continue until they reach a Quorum of FOR Votes, a Quorum of AGAINST Votes, or if there is no hiatus going on, until four days have passed since they were posted, and if there is a hiatus going on until two days have passed since they were posted. After this time, if more than half the cast Votes are FOR Votes, the CfJ may be enacted by any Admin by updating or correcting the Gamestate and Ruleset as specified. Otherwise, the CfJ fails. A Failed CfJ has no further effect.

Any CfJ that has no effect on the ruleset or gamestate may be automatically failed by any admin.

Gamestate Tracking

Proposals, Calls for Judgment, and other official posts, as well as specific gamestate information, shall be tracked by the BlogNomic blog at http://blognomic.com. Any Mini Figure may post to the blog at any time, but may only make official posts to the blog when the Ruleset allows it. Posts following the format specified by a rule are considered official posts.

If no Mini Figure has commented on it, an official post may be altered or removed by its author; otherwise this can only be done as allowed by the Ruleset. However, despite this, official posts can never be changed from one category to another, or changed to be a different sort of official post, if they have been posted for more than fifteen minutes. The Admin processing an official post is allowed to append to the post to reflect its new status. Anything appended to a post in this way must be placed in the Admin field of the post, and the post's Status must be changed to reflect its status.

A non-official post may not, through editing of the blog or otherwise, be changed into an official post, with the following exception: Whilst a non-official post has been posted for less than fifteen minutes and has no comments, the author may change the categories as they wish.

Voting and comments are accessible through the link at the bottom of every post.

Specific parts of the Gamestate data shall be tracked by the Generic Nomic Data Tracker at http://blognomic.com/gndt/generic.cgi?nomic=blog. Any Mini Figure may update any Mini Figure's data via the GNDT, whenever the Ruleset permits it.

All updates to the GNDT are logged. Actions that change gamestate directly (defined in other rules) can normally be performed simply by applying their effects to the GNDT, which updates the gamestate accordingly, unless another rule specifies some other method of performing them; one GNDT update may contain one or more actions, or one action may be split over multiple GNDT updates, as long as it’s clear what is happening and the actions are otherwise legal. The GNDT merely represents the Gamestate, and is not the same thing. In the event that the Gamestate and the GNDT are different, any Mini Figure may correct the GNDT to comply with the Gamestate.

If a Mini Figure feels that the GNDT was altered such that it no longer matches the gamestate (such as by performing an action which was against the Rules (as they were at the time of the alteration), or by any other means), they may simply undo the effects of that alteration. Instead of repeatedly reverting and re-reverting a disputed GNDT update, Mini Figures are encouraged to raise a Call for Judgment instead. Mini Figures shall be assigned a password for the GNDT when they join the Nomic.

Dynasties

BlogNomic is divided into a number of Dynasties. Each Dynasty is headed by a single Mini Figure, known as the Brick Master.

The Brick Master may Vote to VETO any Proposal.

Victory and Ascension

If a Mini Figure (other than the Brick Master) believes that they have achieved victory in the current Dynasty, they may make a post to the Blognomic weblog in the Declaration of Victory category, detailing this.

Upon doing so, the game immediately goes into Hiatus, if it hasn’t already. During this time, the only game actions that may be taken are those covered by Rules “Mini Figures”, “Voting”, “Calls for Judgment”, “Gamestate Tracking” and “Victory and Ascension”.

Every Mini Figure may cast Votes on that DoV to indicate agreement or disagreement with the proposition that the poster has achieved victory in the current Dynasty.

A DoV may be enacted if any of the following is true:

  • It has been open for voting for 12 hours, has a number of FOR Votes that exceed or equal Quorum, and either the Brick Master has Voted FOR it or it has no AGAINST Votes.
  • It has been open for voting for at least 24 hours, has a number of FOR Votes that exceed or equal Quorum, and has a number of against Votes fewer than half of Quorum, rounded down.
  • It has been open for voting for at least 48 hours, at least Quorum Mini Figures have Voted on it, and more than half of its Votes are FOR.

A DoV may be failed if any of the following are true:

  • It has been open for voting for 12 hours and has enough AGAINST Votes that it could not be Enacted without one of those Votes being changed.
  • It has been open for voting for at least 48 hours and cannot be legally enacted.

When a DoV fails and there are no pending DoVs, Hiatus ends.

When a DoV is enacted, all other active DoVs are failed, and a new Dynasty begins with the Mini Figure who made the DoV as its Brick Master. (That Mini Figure may pass this role to another Mini Figure at this point, if they wish.) The Hiatus continues until the new Brick Master posts an Ascension Address to the BlogNomic weblog - this should specify the Brick Master’s chosen theme for the new Dynasty, and may optionally specify that the terms Mini Figure and Brick Master will be replaced with theme-specific terms throughout the entire ruleset, and/or a number of dynastic rules to keep. Upon posting such an Ascension Address, the ruleset is updated to reflect any changed terms, and any dynastic rules which were not listed to be kept are repealed.

A DoV may not be started in the period between an enacted DoV and that DoV’s Ascension Address. When a DoV is failed, if it has a number of AGAINST Votes that exceed Quorum, the Mini Figure who posted it cannot make another DoV until after 120 hours (5 days) have passed since the time their DoV was failed.

A Declaration of Victory may not also be any other type of Official Post unless the rules concerning that type of Official Post explicitly state otherwise.

Fair Play

The following are BlogNomic’s rules of fair play. If any of these rules are found to have been broken, or if a Mini Figure’s behaviour or actions are otherwise deemed unacceptable (socially or otherwise), a proposal or CfJ may be made to reprimand or punish the perpetrator or, in cases of extreme or repeated violations, remove them from the game and bar them from rejoining.

  • A single person should not control more than one Mini Figure within BlogNomic.
  • A Mini Figure should not “spam” the BlogNomic blog. What counts as spamming is subjective, but would typically include posting more than ten blog entries in a day, more than ten blog comments in a row, or posting a blog entry of more than 1000 words.
  • A Mini Figure should not deliberately exploit bugs or unexpected behaviours in the software running the game (ExpressionEngine, MediaWiki or the GNDT).
  • A Mini Figure should not edit their own blog comments once posted, nor those of any other Mini Figure.
  • A Mini Figure should not edit the "Entry Date" field of a blog post.
  • A Mini Figure should not make a DoV primarily to delay the game by putting it into Hiatus.
  • A Mini Figure should not do any action meant to make the game unplayable (for example, changing multiple keywords to the same word in an ascension address).

Seasonal Downtime

Blognomic goes into hiatus every year on December 24th, and remains in hiatus until December 27th. During this time no game actions may be taken except those described in the rules entitled “Voting,” “Gamestate Tracking” and “Call for Judgement”.

Dynastic Rules

Bricks

A standard brick has the following properties:

  • A colour, which must be one of Black, Blue, Brown, Green, Grey, Orange, Purple, Red, White or Yellow
  • A size, which is the bumps on the top of the brick
  • Dimensions, which are recorded in the form [z]x[y], where [z] and [y] are the brick’s dimensions along its length and width. [z] multiplied by [y] must always equal the same number as the brick’s size.

The Value of a standard brick is equal to its size. Standard bricks are assorted.

All standard bricks are considered to have a height of 1.

Non-standard bricks are listed as sub-rules to this rule.

Flat Bricks

A flat brick is one third of the height of a standard brick (i.e. it has a height of 1/3). Otherwise a flat brick has the same qualities and is subject to the same restrictions as a normal brick. Flat Bricks are assorted.

Sloping Bricks

A sloping brick is a non-standard brick. Sloping bricks are assorted.

A sloping brick must have the following qualities:

  • A colour, which must be one of Black, Blue, Green, Grey, Orange, Purple, Red, White or Yellow
  • Dimensions, which are recorded in the form [z]x[y], where [z] and [y] are the brick’s dimensions along its length and width. The dimensions of a sloping brick incorporate the slope, as described below.
  • A slope. A sloping brick may be sloping on one or two of its sides, and is referred to respectively as a 1-slope or a 2-slope brick. This is notated as "S[z]" and/or "S[y]", where [z] or [y] are replaced by the respective dimension as per the bullet point above.

The Value of a 1-slope brick is the product of its dimensions plus the size of its slope, i.e. either S[z] or S[y], as appropriate. The Value of a 2-slope is its the product of its dimensions plus twice the size of its slopes, or ((S[z]+S[y])*2). All sloping bricks have a height of 1.

Base Brick

A base brick is a non-standard brick. A base brick is one-fifth of the heigh of a standard brick (i.e. it has a height of 1/5).

A base brick must have the following qualities:

  • A colour, which must be one of Green, Grey, or White
  • Dimensions, which are recorded in the form [z]x[y], where [z] and [y] are the brick’s dimensions along its length and width. The [z] and [y] dimensions of a base brick must always be even and must always be at least 10.

The Value of a base brick is the product of its dimensions divided by the sum of its dimensions, or ([z]x[y])/([z]+[y]).

Minifigs

Each Mini Figure has a minifig, which is a construction made of three non-standard bricks. It is recorded in the Workbench section of the Toybox page, as per any other kind of construction.

A minifig must consist of one of each of three kinds of non-standard bricks: a head brick, a torso brick and a legs brick. A new Mini Figure starts with a smiling head brick, and a torso brick and legs brick in their choice of colour (from the list of permitted values for standard bricks).

A minifig always has a value of zero.

Head Brick Head bricks are non-standard bricks. Head bricks are assorted - for the purposes of assortment, the expression of a head brick is considered to be analogous to its colour.

A head brick must have the following quality:

  • Expression. In certain defined circumstances a head brick may have a non-standard expression, but the default values for head brick expressions are: Smiling, Frowning, Pirate.

Head bricks have a value of 1.

Torso and Leg Bricks Torso bricks and leg bricks are both non-standard bricks. Both are assorted.

Torso and leg bricks must have the following quality:

  • Design. In certain defined circumstances a torso or leg brick can carry a custom design, but by default these bricks may be one of the colours available to standard bricks (i.e. Black, Blue, Brown, Green, Grey, Orange, Purple, Red, White or Yellow).

Torso bricks and leg bricks each have a value of 1.

Currency

Each Mini Figure has a quantity of Funds, which is tracked in the GNDT. New Mini Figures start with 100 Funds.

Funds can be used to buy bricks. A mini figure may buy a brick by reducing their funds by the value of the brick that they wish to purchase. There is a wiki page entitled Toybox. The Toybox page is split into two section for each Mini Figure - The Bucket and The Workbench. The bricks owned by each Mini Figure are tracked in the Bucket section of the Toybox page.

Some bricks are marked as assorted. If a mini figure chooses to buy an assorted brick, he may choose to only pay 80% (rounded up) of the value. He may not specify a color if he does this, instead after purchasing the brick he must role a DICEN where N is the number of colors available for that brick. The color of brick will be the result of the dice rule used as an index to the list of available colors, sorted alphabetically. (So if the colors are Red, Blue and Green a DICE3 is rolled and 2 would make the result Green).

Proposal Bounties

Whenever a proposal is enacted and modifies the Ruleset, its author's Funds increases by 15. If the proposal creates at least one new dynastic Rule, its author's Funds increases by an additional 10. However if a proposal’s Title includes the text “[Trivial]”, its author does not receive any Funds for that proposal under this rule.

Construction

Mini Figures may combine three or more of their bricks to form a Construction. Bricks that have been used to form a construction are removed from the Bucket section of the Toybox page and the construction is added to the Workbench section of the same page. The Workbench section must detail a name, a value and the composition in bricks for each construction. The base value of a construction is strictly equal to the sum of the values of the bricks used in its composition. As a weekly action, a Mini Figure may sell one of their Constructions by removing it from their section of the Toybox page and adding its value to their Funds.

The value of a construction may be affected by any of a number of modifiers. These are detailed a subrule to this rule.

A Mini Figure may, at any time, deconstruct any construction that they own by removing it from their workbench. They may then add the bricks that composed that construction to their Bucket.

Value modifiers

The following value modifiers apply to all constructions:

  • Big

Criteria: The base value of the construction is 500 or more.
Effect: Value x2

  • Little

Criteria: The base value of the construction is 10 or less.
Effect: Value x0.75

  • Uniform

Criteria: All of the bricks involved in the construction are the same colour.
Effect: Value +10

Citizen Brick

The Brick Master is not considered to be a Mini Figure for any dynastic rule.

Requests

Provided there are fewer than three active requests, the Brick Master may make a request by creating a story post with the title “x Request: y” where “x” is the type of request (detailed below) and “y” is the name of the request (as chosen by the brick master). The post must also contain text which describes a construction, and must describe either a standard reward, a bonus reward, or both, both of which must be positive amount of funds.

For the next 48 hours, the request post remains active. Each Mini Figure may once remove a construction from their workbench which fits the requirements of the request and make a comment about it on the story post. The comment must, as with the workbench, detail a name, a value and the composition in bricks for each construction. It is strongly encouraged to also include a link to a pictorial illustration, or at least a textual description of how the bricks fit together. A mini figure who does this is said to have completed the request. If the request carries a standard reward, the mini figure may then increase their funds by the standard reward for the request.

After 48 hours, the request ceases to be active. If the request carried a bonus reward, the Brick Master may then once within the next 48 hours make a comment on the story post mentioning one mini figure who completed the request, whom the brick master believes best fulfilled the request. That mini figure’s funds are then to be increased by the bonus reward for the request.

The number of completed requests is tracked in the GNDT, under the Brick Master’s Funds column.

Open Requests

An open request must detail at least three criteria for the composition of the requested construction, but not its shape or structure. Examples of criteria may be, but are not limited to, the following: number of blocks used, colour mix of bricks in the construction, value of the construction, proportion of non-standard bricks used. An open construction may carry either or both kinds of reward, but bonus rewards should generally be given for the construction that meets the criteria while also most closely resembling the real-world object it is named after.

Closed Requests

A closed request must detail at least one structural or shape-related characteristic for the requested construction. This may be as narrow as requesting a specific shape (“build me a house”) or as wide as describing vague physical characteristics (“the construction must have four sides”). A closed request may not make requirements based on composition of bricks, although these issues can be factored in when adjudicating bonus rewards. An open construction may carry either or both kinds of reward.

If the Brick Master believes a response to a closed request does not properly satisfy the requirements of the request, he may make a comment listening the offending mini-figures name and a AGAINST mark. He must then subtract the offending standard reward from the mini-figures fund. (A mini-figure's funds are allowed to go negative by this process) and return the construction to the mini-figures workbench. The Brick master may do this at any time a request is active as well as within 48 hours of the request ceasing to be active. A mini figure who has their submission rejected in this manner may attempt to submit another construction for the request (provided it is still active).

Project Requests

A project request must detail the nature of a wide-ranging project that the Brick Master is trying to achieve. Mini Figures may respond to this request with any construction of their choice, provided that it in some way adds or contributes to the project. This kind of request may only carry a bonus reward. Projects and the constructions that have been incorporated into them may be tracked on the Brick Master’s Projects page in the wiki.

Kit

A construction in a Mini Figure’s workbench may have an additional effect. As a weekly action, a Mini Figure may make a Prototype post, which must have a title in the format “PROTOTYPE: x” (where x is the name of the construction), and which must have body text detailing one of the constructions on their workbench and the effect that it should have. A Prototype post is a votable matter and is resolved in the same manner as a proposal, although it does not count as a proposal for the purposes of rule 1.3.

If a Prototype passes, the effect is added to the construction in the Toybox page. The prototype becomes a kit, and the description, effect and value of the new kit are added as sub-rules to this rule. The value of a kit is set at 75% of the base value (i.e. without modifiers) of the construction upon which it is based, and can be bought by a Mini Figure at any time.

Rotation

A Brick is Rotatable if it has a Dimensions attribute and is not a sloping brick.

At any time, a Mini Figure may replace a Rotatable [z]x[y] Brick in their Bucket with a [y]x[z] Brick that has otherwise identical attributes.

Apex

When at least 15 Requests have been completed, the Brick Master may call a Lego-Off.

A Lego-Off is a type of Request. A Lego-Off is open to the two eligible Mini Figures with the greatest Funds at the time that the Lego-Off was called. The Lego-Off request post must specify a genre within which the competitive Mini Figures must work. The competitive Mini Figures then have 48 hours to build a construction that fits within that genre.

After 48 hours have elapsed from the calling of the Lego-Off, the Lego-Off closes. If either of the competitive Mini Figures have failed to post an entry then the Lego-Off is declared void, and both competitive Mini Figures are prohibited from competing in future Lego-Offs; the Brick Master must then wait at least one week before posting a new Lego-Off. If both competitive Mini Figures posted entries to the request then that Brick Master should make a new post, entitled Adjudication, showcasing the two entries and ascribing voting buttons to each of the competitive Mini Figures. The Adjudication post is a votable matter. Whichever competitive Mini Figure's construction has received the most votes after 48 hours have elapsed from the posting of the Adjudication post has achieved victory.

The Great Wall

A Construction is a Wall Segment if its name is of the form "Wall Segment N", where N is a natural number. (i.e. 0, 1, 2, 3...). N is its Segment Number.

Each Wall Segment in a Workbench is Above all Wall Segments in the same Workbench that have a lower Segment Number. A Wall Segment is Directly Above another Wall Segment if it is Above that other Wall Segment and has a Segment Number 1 greater than that other Wall Segment's Segment Number.

A Wall Layer is well-formed if it fits all the following criteria:

  • Either its Segment Number is 0 or it is Directly Above another Wall Segment.
  • All bricks in the Wall Segment have a defined height and a Dimensions attribute.
  • The [y] dimensions of the bricks in the Wall Segment sum to at least 1 and no more than 12.
  • All bricks in the Wall Segment have the same height

If a Wall Segment that is not well-formed is ever present in a Mini Figure's Workbench, it is immediately disassembled and the bricks it contains are returned to that Mini Figure's Bucket.

The Ultimate Project

A Mini Figure who has a construction with a base value of at least 1500 on their Workbench has achieved victory.

Glossary

Keywords

A keyword defined by a rule supersedes the normal English usage of the word. A keyword defined in this glossary supersedes that defined by a rule. (eg. A rule specifying "bananas are blue" cannot be overruled by posting a dictionary definition or a photo of a banana, and a rule specifying "every day is Sunday" will be overruled by the glossary entry below.)

If a game action is a Weekly Action, each Mini Figure able to perform it may take that action once each week, but not more than once every twenty-four hours.

Clarifications

Numbers and Variables

  • Unless otherwise specified, game variables defined to hold numeric values can hold only non-negative integers, and any action that would set those values below zero instead sets them to zero. Any situation which would require a roll of DiceX when X is zero or lower always yields a value of 0 unless stated otherwise.
  • All numbers, unless stated otherwise by a rule, are in base ten.
  • Unless otherwise specified, when “X” is a number, to spend X of a numeric value “V” means to subtract X from V (i.e. replace V with V-X); to gain X of a numeric value “V” means to add X to V; and to transfer X of a numeric value “V” from A to B means to subtract X from A's V and add the amount A's V was reduced by to B's V. Unless otherwise specified, a rule that allows Mini Figures to transfer a numeric value only allows them to transfer that value from themselves to another Mini Figure (of their choice unless otherwise stated).
  • A Mini Figure who has a choice in whether to take an action defined by a dynastic rule may not take that action if both of the following conditions are true: a) the action's effects are limited to changing values tracked in the GNDT and/or similar gamestate-tracking entities (such as a wiki page), and b) the action would change one of those values to an illegal value.
  • If a rule implies that the result of any calculation should be an integer (for instance, by attempting to store that result in, or add it to, a gamestate variable that can only hold integers), the result of the calculation is instead the result rounded towards 0.
  • If a number or other game variable is selected 'at random' or 'randomly' from a range of possible values, its value shall always be taken from a uniform probability distribution over the entire range of possible values, unless otherwise specified.

Rules and Proposals

  • If a new rule is created by a proposal and its location is not noted in that proposal, that new rule is to be placed in the Dynastic Rules.
  • Where a Proposal would amend the effects of Proposal Enactment, this does not apply to its own enactment unless explicitly stated (eg. a proposal proposing that enacted proposals earn their author a banana when enacted would not earn a banana for its own author, when enacted).
  • Rules which trigger upon the Enactment or Failure of a Proposal are the responsibility of the Admin who Enacts or Fails it.

Time

  • For the purpose of all rules, time in Blognomic is in GMT.
  • All references to time must be either specific or defined within the ruleset to be considered achievable in the gamestate. Abstract concepts of time (e.g. "dinnertime", "twilight") cannot be achieved until they fulfil one of these criteria.
  • Where the month, day and/or year of a calendar date are ambiguous (eg. "04/10/09"), it shall be assumed that the date is in a day/month/year format.

Spelling

  • Superficial differences between the spelling of geographic versions of English, e.g, British English, American English and Australian English shall be construed as irrelevant for the purposes of play.

Names

  • Within the ruleset, a word only refers to the name of a Mini Figure if it is explicitly stated that it refers to a Mini Figure's name.
