Second Switch suggestions

Following are things that someone, somewhere thinks would be nice to have on the new WordPress blog, but are not yet planned to be ready when the Second Switch occurs.

• Visual indication of new comments on posts
  • Highlight posts with new comments since last visit?
  • Note of who posted the most recent comment on each post?
• An "Alert me when new dynasty begins" feature that actually works
• Active/Idle tracking improvements
  • Automate lists with profile field
  • Automate profile field based on actual activity
• Things to make dynastic transitions easier
  • The Elementor page builder and planned smiley features should cover most parts of this, but maybe there will be others
• Now that we’ll have an easy way to make and design standalone pages on the new site, we might consider moving some things from the wiki to the main blog? It would make sense to have, for example, the FAQ on the site instead of on this external thing. Maybe there are other examples. But this is mostly my nerdy design instincts telling me this, and since the wiki is always going to be super important to BlogNomic, there's no technical/practical reason to resist linking off to it, unless everyone agrees and sees no downsides for certain pages.

Only concerns I'd have would be that this might limit who could edit the FAQ, or make it harder for players to notice when the FAQ had been changed (if someone's made edits that others would disagree with). I'm ambivalent about the design of it: having it as part of the site would look more organised and authoritative, but on the other hand having it on a wiki page conveys that we're a collaborative community and that the answers on the page are organic. --Kevan (talk) 14:24, 1 June 2020 (UTC)

I think we should try to stay mostly wiki-focused. The FAQ should be able to be modified by anyone on a platform with good version control. Mediawiki just makes sense. If we want more authoritative-looking pages, we might be able to use the MediaWiki API to set up Wordpress pages that mirror the wiki. --Trigon (talk) 07:03, 3 June 2020 (UTC)

A "Latest Activity" kind of thing. A list of the latest on-blog actions like:

-11/11/11 11:11 Proposal A was posted by Bob

-11/11/11 11:23 Adriana voted on Proposal B

-11/11/11 11:43 Bob voted on Proposal C

If we're wishlisting then it'd be great if we could flag up votable matters that were still waiting for a vote from the reader - maybe a banner at the top of the blog that named and linked to the oldest pending proposal the user hadn't yet cast a vote on, and additionally any CfJs/DoVs that were still waiting for them. --Kevan (talk) 14:15, 1 June 2020 (UTC)
