Fat Bear Draft
1 Gameplay
Everyone is a bear in an Alaskan nature reserve (except the Emperor who would be the Judge), competing to be the fattest bear of the all. While normal fat bear week is just a popularity contest, in this dynasty you would be competing simply to be the heaviest bear. In order to avoid disagreement between the Brits and the Yanks this would simply be measured in a numerical unit called "Fat", with the Bear who has the highest amount of Fat at the end of a set period of time (likely 4 weeks after the dynasty starts) achieving victory.
Different terrain types could allow for different actions, depending on where players want to take the dynasty it could be more of a territory control kind of gameplay that is played on a grid where bears move around and try to hold the best hunting grounds for themselves, or it could be a risk/reward type where bears have to choose between hunting in the river (where the rewards aren't great but the expected return is solid) or the mountains (where there might be bigger rewards or you could find nothing)
2 Possible Proposals
2.1 Energy
Each Bear has an amount of Energy, which defaults to 5. As a weekly action, a Bear may gain 5 energy. Additionally, at any time a Bear may Overcharge. When they do so, they lose X Fat where X is the number of times they have Overcharged during the current week (including the current Overcharge) in order to gain 1 additional energy.
In order to perform an Energetic Action, a bear must spend 1 energy, plus one additional energy for every two other Energetic Actions they have already performed during the last 24 hours.
2.2 Exploring
Each Bear has a number of Injuries, which defaults to zero. If a Bear has three injuries, every Energetic Action they perform costs one additional energy. If a Bear has four or more injuries, they cannot take any Energetic Actions.
As an Energetic Action a Bear may explore. To do so, they first roll a DICE100 and then gain the effect matching the Exploration Table for their current terrain
2.2.1 River
Roll | Result |
---|---|
1-5 | You slip and fall on the slippery rocks, gain an injury |
6-15 | A large salmon jumps in the air but expertly dodges your attempts to eat it. Nothing happens. |
16-30 | A salmon hits you in the eye but you get the last laugh as you eat it. Gain an injury and three fat. |
31-50 | You spy some berries growing by the riverbed. Gain two fat. |
51-75 | You catch a salmon! Gain three fat. |
76-90 | You catch an extra large salmon! Gain five fat! |
91-99 | The tasty salmon you eat reinvigorates you. Gain 3 fat and roll again on the River Exploration Table! |
100 | The salmon was magic! Heal all injuries and gain ten fat! |
2.3 Bear Fights
If two bears ever share the same location, one Bear may challenge the other by making a story post to the blog declaring this challenge. The bear on the receiving end of the challenge must, within 48 hours of this post being made, either accept the challenge by responding with a :FOR: marker or back away, by changing their location and increasing their Shame by 1.
If they accept the challenge, both the challenging Bear and the responding Bear have 24 hours to privately indicate a Bid to the Judge. A Bid consists of a non negative number of times they would like to Overcharge as well as a non negative amount of energy they would like to spend. Once both Bids have been received, the Judge resolves the Challenge by first performing the number of requested overcharges for each bear, reducing the energy by their bids, then rolling a DICE(Weight + 10 * Energy Bid) for each bear. The bear with the higher result wins the challenge and gains 1 Glory, whereas the losing Bear's location is set back to The Den.
