Throughout this proposal, where an instruction directs the enacting admin to manipulate a specific instance of the term 'Emperor' in the ruleset, consider the use of the term 'Emperor' to be interchangeable with the term defined in the rule Synonyms as its synonym. Whenever this proposal would add the term 'Emperor' or 'Player' to the ruleset, immediately replace it with its synonym as per the above.

Rewrite the rule Dynasties as follows:

BlogNomic is divided into a number of Dynasties. Each Dynasty may have up to one Emperor and may have up to one President. If there is no Emperor and there is no President, the Dynasty is a Metadynasty.

Broadly, an Emperor is analogous to a Game Master; they direct a dynasty rather than participating in it, and thus cannot win. A President may set the theme or direction for a dynasty but is otherwise identical to all other participants. More detailed definitions can be found in the rule Imperial Styles, which is a subrule to the rule Clarifications in the Appendix. The roles of Emperor and President are collectively known as 'Imperial Styles'.

An Interregnum is the period between dynasties, after a DoV has been enacted and before an Ascension Address has been posted. During an Interregnum the game is in hiatus; additionally, no DoVs may be made, and no Player may achieve Victory. However, dynastic actions that are specifically permitted to be carried out during an Interregnum may be carried out.

Starting from the phrase 'When a DoV is Enacted, all other pending DoVs are Failed', rewrite the remaining contents of the rule Victory and Ascension as follows:

When a DoV is Enacted, all other pending DoVs are Failed, the Player who posted the DoV becomes Ascendant, and the game enters an Interregnum. When a DoV is enacted then all game actions that led up to it are considered to be upheld.

If the game is in an Interregnum then the new Ascendant must either Pass the Mantle (by making a post naming Player who was not the last dynasty’s Emperor, in which case the passing Player ceases to be Ascendant and the Player so named becomes Ascendant) or start a new dynasty by completing the following Atomic Action:

  • Make an Ascension Address by posting an entry in the “Ascension Address” category. This should either specify the Emperor's chosen theme for the new Dynasty, or name a single other Player who is appointed President; and it may optionally specify new dynasty-specific terms as outline in the rule "Synonyms", and/or list a number of dynastic rules to keep (if none are specified then the entire Dynastic Ruleset is repealed).
  • Update the Ruleset to reflect any changed terms, and any dynastic rules which were not listed to be kept are repealed.
  • Optionally change the gamestate tracking page referred to in the rule “Ruleset and Gamestate” to a different page that does not exist and does not start with the word “Ruleset”.

Once this Atomic Action has been completed the Interregnum ends, any Players who were Ascendant cease to be Ascendant, and the new dynasty begins.

Add a new Core Rule to the ruleset, called Belo:

Each Player has a numerical value for their Belo, which is publicly tracked and which defaults to zero. A Player's Belo is not a dynastic variable and may not be changed as a result of any dynastic action.

During an Interregnum, or at any time within 48 hours of an Interregnum having taken place, any Player who was active in the recently concluded Dynasty may update the Belos. Updating the Belos is a communal atomic action with the following steps, where, in all cases, if a Player's Belo is referred to then their Belo is taken from its value at the time when the most DoV was enacted:

  • The baseline Belo for the dynasty is defined as the average of two values: the average Belo of all Players active at the time the most recent DoV was enacted, and the Belo of the Player who successfully Declared Victory (if no Player successfully declared Victory then this value is 100).
  • The Emperor in the concluded Dynasty has no change to their Belo;
  • The Player who successfully Declared Victory has their Belo set to the highest value Belo of any active Player at the time of their successful DoV, plus 10;
  • For each publicly tracked value for which a level of attainment can be ascribed, and for which a value judgement can be applied to that attainment, whichever Player has attained the most gains 5 Belo;
  • Any Player who was made Idle by an Admin as a result of taking no activity loses 5 Belo.

If at least one of the following are true:

  • It has been more than 45 days since the current Dynasty started;
  • The current Dynasty is a Metadynasty;
  • The game is currently Dormant;
  • It has been more than seven days since the last time a Proposal was posted;

then any Player with a Belo of 200 or greater may set their Belo to 100 and Achieve Victory. A Player who Achieves Victory in such a manner may not elect to have the Imperial Style of Emperor; they may only elect to have the Imperial Style of President.

Add a new subrule to the rule Clarifications, called Imperial Styles, in the Appendix:

* Proposals may not be made that would grant the President power or knowledge that is not available to any other Player as a result of their Imperial Style.

  • The President may, at any time but only once per dynasty, issue a Statement of Theme, which sets out the theme and narrative for the dynasty.
