Summary

A proposal to combine the rules "Dynasties" and "Victory and Ascension" and to improve their readability. Mechanically, this functions pretty much identically to the current system. I envision this rule immediately following "Ruleset and Gamestate".

Please leave your comments/suggestions in the Discussion page!

Justifications:

  • New players reading the ruleset for the first time will have a much more immediate understanding of the structure and goals of BlogNomic gameplay.
  • As a matter of organisation, it is generally better for the rules governing dynasties and their leaders to be together.
  • The new wording is (hopefully) clearer in meaning and is nearly 25% shorter than the current version, with (hopefully) no loss of specificity or meaning. Length isn't always a bad thing but all else being equal, concision should be preferred.
  • The concept of interregnum and its relation to other game concepts such as Hiatus and Ascension Addresses is more clearly defined. Going forward, rule changes relating to interregnums will be easier to write.
  • The language around the Drone has been made slightly more consistent. This would make it easier to adapt into a subrule, for example, or to have a dynasty with two drones, without having to worry as much about multiple wordings conflicting.

Dynasties and Victory (draft)

BlogNomic is divided into a number of Dynasties separated by Interregnums. A Dynasty is usually headed by one Citizen known as the Drone. If there is no Drone, the dynasty is a metadynasty.

A Citizen other than the Drone who believes that they have achieved victory in the current Dynasty may make a Declaration of Victory (DoV) detailing their victory by posting an entry in the “Declaration of Victory” category. A given Citizen may make no more than one DoV in any 120 hour period. Every Citizen may vote on each pending DoV to indicate whether they agree that its author has achieved victory in the current Dynasty.

If there are any pending DoVs, BlogNomic is on Hiatus. When a DoV is Enacted, the Dynasty ends and BlogNomic enters an Interregnum. The Citizen who posted the DoV becomes the Drone. All game actions leading up to an enacted DoV are upheld.

A Pending DoV may be Enacted by any Admin if any of the following are true:

  • It is Popular, it has been open for at least 12 hours, and either the Drone has Voted FOR it or it has no AGAINST Votes.
  • It is Popular, and it has been open for at least 24 hours.

A Pending DoV may be Failed by any Admin if any of the following are true:

  • It is Unpopular, and it has been open for at least 12 hours.

During an Interregnum, BlogNomic is on Hiatus and any pending DoVs automatically fail. If they have not already done so, the Drone must do one of the following:

  • Make a post Passing the Mantle to another named Citizen who immediately becomes the new Drone.
  • Make an Ascension Address by posting an entry in the “Ascension Address” category. This should specify a theme for the new Dynasty. It may optionally list some of the Dynastic rules and/or specify other changes to the ruleset per the rules “Synonyms” and “Special Case”.

When an Ascension Address is posted, a new Dynasty begins and all dynastic rules not named in the Ascension Address are repealed. If applicable, the ruleset is also updated per “Synonyms” and “Special Case.” The Drone should update the wiki to reflect these changes.
