User:Zack/Flair proposal draft

The following is a draft of a rule which would allow the emperor to optionally add flair/style to the ruleset. Something like this was used in Kevan 29 for Zone Rules, and it made the ruleset more visually interesting and easier to parse. I personally think the variety made things more fun and every dynasty could all benefit from having it as an option.

[Appendix] Flair

Flair is a type of wiki template that can be used to style the Ruleset and/or representations of gamestate on the BlogNomic Wiki. The Emperor may edit the Dynastic Rules section of the ruleset to add or remove flair as they see fit, except in cases where the ruleset regulates the use of a particular flair. Flair has no effect on the rules or gamestate except where specified by the ruleset.

Adding a flair to the ruleset is done as follows, replacing "Flair name" with the desired flair:

  • For a flair which does not span multiple lines, insert {{Flair|Flair name}} between two lines of wikitext.
  • For a flair which spans multiple lines, insert {{Flair top|Flair name}} before the first line, and {{Flair bottom}} after the last line.

A flair may not span the entirety of the Dynastic Rules or affect any part of any non-dynastic rule. Additionally, any particular flair may not be used if it would change the interpretation of the current ruleset. For instance, if the rules regulate the use of bold text for a particular game mechanic, any flair which makes text contained within it bold may not be used. Any Player may remove a flair from the ruleset if it violates these conditions.

Any Player or Idle Player may define a new flair by creating a wiki page called Template:Flair/Flair name.css containing the desired CSS styles for the flair (replacing "Flair name" with the name of the flair). The CSS styles of a flair must meet all of the following criteria, except where specified by the ruleset:

  • They may not add or remove text from the ruleset.
  • They may not obscure or alter the contents of the ruleset outside of its appearance.
  • They may not be deceptive or inconspicuous in such a way that the flair's presence would change the interpretation of the ruleset.

A flair which is present in the ruleset is gamestate. Any Player or idle Player may edit an existing flair's CSS if it is not present in the ruleset, or if it does not meet any of the above criteria, to make it so. Alternatively, any player may remove a flair from the ruleset if it does not meet the above criteria. The Emperor may edit a flair which is present in the ruleset as long as the edits still meet the above criteria.

Every flair should have a section in the List of Flairs, the contents of which are flavourtext. Each section should contain a preview of the corresponding flair and indicate whether it spans a single line or multiple lines. Any Player or idle Player may edit the List of Flairs to ensure it is an accurate and helpful representation of available flairs.
