Revision as of 13:33, 28 April 2024

This is an attempt to apply a taxonomy of different victory types to the history of BlogNomic. Those types are:-

Wintypes.png
  • Conventional: A player wins through regular dynastic-rule gameplay.
  • Scam: A player exploits the rules in an unexpected manner to achieve victory.
  • Pooling: Several players combine their resources to allow one of their number (often selected at random) to win.
  • Other: The dynasty was ended in an unusual way (often early, through the decision of the group).

Conventional types:

  • [Assisted]: Assisted conventional. Win that relies on an alliance/collaboration but there is no Pooling maneuver, for example, a trade of resources or synergy without deliberate/planned self-sacrifice.

Scam types:

  • [As Written] Read-as-written (RAW). A rule or rules being exploited in a surprising but uncontested manner.
  • [Late] Late reveal. A player delaying informing others that a rule may have been broken, to gain advantage.
  • [Admin] Admin advantage. A scam which could only be performed by an admin player.

Pooling types:

  • [Resource] Pooling a tradeable game resource
  • [Action] One or more players taking an action to give another victory
  • [Bloc Vote] Block-voting as a group, in order to assign victory among that group
  • [Altered Bloc Vote] Same as above, but voting mechanics are altered by some dynastic rule.

Other Dynasty end types:

  • [Election] Election: a victor is elected by the players (typically for dynastic merit or popularity), either through an election among several players, or by passing a vote to crown one specific winner.
  • [Pure Random] A random player chosen among an impartial set of players is the victor.
  • [Merit Random] Random, but the victor is a set of players chosen by their merit in the game (for example, two tied players in the lead)
  • [Meta] No victor, the Dynasty results in a Metadynasty.

Combination types:

  • X + Y: Combination of the two types (for example, a scam that relies on self-sacrificial action of several players in a cabal).
  • X / Y: Presence of both types without them being part of the same manuvuer by the same victor/cabal, although each being instrumental to victory.
  • X // Y: Presence of both types without them being performed by the same victor/cabal.

Victory-relevant rules and actions:

  • [No Comms] No Private Communication rule was on, preventing private discussion among players
  • [No Coop] No Cooperation rule was on, banning cooperative behaviour
  • [No Mantle] No Mantle Passing rule existed as a non-default Building Block and was chosen to be active, preventing mantle passes
  • [Alliances] Declared Alliances was active, allowing mantle passes
  • [Traitor] Traitor rule was on, Traitor used it to deny the pool at the end
  • [Mantle Roll] A player won with assistance, on the agreement that they would then roll a weighted die and pass the mantle to an accomplice under certain outcomes

Other notes:

  • An "(undeclared)" victory is one where a player met the criteria for achieving victory, but did not (or was unable to) post a DoV

Note: This table has been filled out by various players, with varying views on what qualifies as a particular type of victory, so may not be entirely representative or consistent.

The Seventh Dynasty of ais523 Josh + Trapdoorspyder + Cuddlebeam Conventional + Pooling [Action] [Mantle Roll] Josh enacted a series of proposals which would work together to grant him victory, and brought some votes from Trapdoorspyder and Cuddlebeam to ensure that the queue stayed locked
The Sixteenth Dynasty of Josh Kevan + Clucky Conventional + Pooling [Resource] [Mantle Roll] [No Comms] Clucky donated some Citizens to a critical Building, but later retracted a mantle roll agreement due to some (limited ruleset-permitted backchannel) miscommunication around possible scams that didn't actually work.
The Twenty-Ninth Dynasty of Kevan Trapdoorspyder + Cuddlebeam + TyGuy6 + redtara Other + Pooling + Scam [Election][Resource] [Mantle Roll] A cabal of players achieved enough of a poolable resource that would allow them to win (partially scam-gained). This was used as merit to achieve a winning CFJ, due to unconventional circumstances concerning the Emperor.
23 October 2021: Players vote in a dynastic rule of "the mantle may not be passed" during the next dynasty; it is kept in place for the one after it, and then made into a default-off Special Case rule
The First Dynasty of Trapdoorspyder None None [Meta] [No Mantle] An enacted Merit Random resolution contained a scam that was voted down, and could not otherwise be processed. Players then voted to play a metadynasty which only two of the possible merit-random winners of this dynasty could win.
The Tenth Metadynasty Brendan Pooling [Bloc Vote] [No Mantle]: Played as a tiebreaker dynasty between two not-quite-quorate teams, a defector supported Brendan's victory proposal.
The Eighth Dynasty of Brendan Brendan + Kevan Pooling [Resource] [Mantle Roll] [No Comms] [No Mantle] [Alliances] Information was shared (the Dark One's weakness) to coin flip on one of those players winning. No Mantle and No Comms were in effect but didn't apply to the Malign Emperor.
The Ninth Dynasty of Brendan Clucky + TyGuy6 + Zack Pooling [Resource] [No Mantle] [Alliances] Players pooled freely-tradeable coins to hit the victory condition (Josh and Jumble had also donated coins to the ultimate winner, but not with the intention of a victory split).
The First Dynasty of Zack Jumble Other [Merit Random] An unexpected interaction of several rules allowed anyone to claim free winshare for the end-of-game roll-off.
The Second Dynasty of Jumble Brendan + Josh + ? Scam [As Written] [Mantle Roll] Brendan won via exploiting a mechanic that allowed him to take any action, then passed it to Josh in an undisclosed victory split.
The Seventeenth Dynasty of Josh MadisonSilver Scam [As Written] [No Mantle] [Alliances] Some kind of manipulation of the GPT text generator that the dynasty was using.
The First Dynasty of MadisonSilver Josh Other A DoV which turned out not to be based on successfully Achieving Victory was enacted anyway.
The Eighteenth Dynasty of Josh Kevan Other [Election] [No Mantle] After the ruleset was suspended due to a lack of activity, a theme-election mechanic was proposed; Kevan won as the only participant
The Thirtieth Dynasty of Kevan Lendunistus + Josh + SupernovaStarbright Scam + Pooling [As Written] [Mantle Roll] The group supported each others' changes to allow a scam to be completed
The First Dynasty of lendunistus Josh + Kevan + Trapdoorspyder Scam + Pooling [As Written] [Mantle Roll] Josh proposed a scam, two other players spotted it (?) but accepted a share of mantle roll in exchange for keeping quiet about it.

The Third Dynasty of Trapdoorspyder Chiiika + Habanero Pooling [Resource] [Mantle Roll] [Alliances] Players pooled farmable Resources and combined the outputs of resource-producing Buildings to allow Chiiika to build the 4 Buildings necessary to win. Chiiika passed the Mantle to Habanero under the Alliances rule
The First Dynasty of Habanero JonathanDark Scam [Merit Random] Brendan successfully exploited an infinite resource scam; however, since there was no victory condition in the ruleset, an endgame rolloff was proposed. JonathanDark won the roll.
The Second Dynasty of JonathanDark Misty Conventional [No Comms]
The Third Dynasty of Misty none Other [Meta]
The Eleventh Metadynasty Josh Other [Merit Random] When a game action caused the outcome of the Merit Random roll to become ambiguous (either Josh or Redtara had won it and consensus was split), Redtara stood down and proposed that Josh had won it.
The Twentieth Dynasty of Josh Lemon Conventional [No Comms]
