Important announcement to all snails participating in this week’s race!
The jury would like to inform you of the following to stop last week’s accidents from happening again:
- Extensive use of magic, spacerockets and lungfish is strongly discouraged
- Try to move towards the finish line at least sometimes
- In case of an approaching alien organism, follow the standard evacuation protocol, i.e. crawl in random directions in panic
- Please do not eat the rubber ducks! They are for track maintenance purposes only
Throughout the ruleset, replace Genetic Engineer with Snail and Head Researcher with Jury.

Gameplay summary
Snails enter Races, and perform Plays which take them down the track, dodging non-player Slugs. When nobody can move any more, the three Snails who reached the finish line in the fewest number of Plays receive Fame and Medals.

I ended the race while it was still starting
The dynasty ended in an opportunistic timing scam: ais523 refreshed the blog, and happened to notice that Desertfrog was halfway through the Preparations action that started a new race. At that point in time, the Race thread had already been created (creating an Ongoing Race), but the Snails had not been reset to their starting positions yet. This was a situation in which the Race could legally be ended (it was Ongoing but there were no Racing Snails), so ais523 performed the Award Ceremony action, interrupting the Preparations. (Although ais523 used the wrong numbers for Fame adjustments, the DoV concluded that that didn't matter.)
The victory condition (subtract Track Record from the Plays performed in Race 5, lowest number wins) was not written to take this situation into account (as it specified that the subtraction should be performed as Snails cross the Finish Line, but no actual crossing occurred), and instead looked at the Snails' Plays statistics directly, which (at that point in time) still retained their values from Race 4. Race 4 was won by ais523 and Josh, so those Snails ended up winning the dynasty as a whole. (Although cooperation was banned at the time, Josh had no idea that the scam would happen – and nor did ais523, until a few minutes before it was performed – but ais523's attempt to scam victory caused Josh to also win as a side effect.)
