Ascension Address
ASCENSION address. Get it?
It is written in the Book of Darth Cliche:
After the creation, the cruel god Anthony rebelled against the authority of Kevan the Creator. Anthony stole from Kevan the most powerful of all the artifacts of the gods, the Amulet of Yendor, and he hid it in the dark cavities of Gehennom, the Under World, where he now lurks, and bides his time.
Your god Darth Cliche seeks to possess the Amulet, and with it to gain deserved ascendance over other gods.
You, a newly trained Nomic-Player, have been heralded from birth as the instrument of Darth Cliche. You are destined to recover the Amulet for your deity, or die in the attempt. Your hour of destiny has come. For the sake of us all: Go bravely with Darth Cliche!
Repeal all dynastic rules (even though they’re all nonexistent. I like repealing all dynastic rules). Replace Blognomicker with @ and Victorious Blognomicker with RNG throughout the ruleset. Welcome to the NetHack Dynasty!

Proposals of Interest
- Welcome to the Randomocracy (Bucky) - The Emperor in this dynasty was the RNG; as a bit of flavour, when charged with making a random selection, they could instead select one from the range of possible outcomes. The RNG could generate content for the game on the fly pretty much without restriction, because arbitrary text injection scams in the hands of emperors usually go great.
- DYWYPI? (Bucky) - @s were expected to die, a lot. Some of their tracked data was transient, resetting to a default upon their deaths. Some - the number of times they had died, specifically - was designated as permanent.
- Inventory II (lilomar) - Each @ had an inventory.
- Random Monster Generator (Bucky) - Some basic monsters were stood up to crawl the dungeon.
- Combat (Klisz) - Basic combat soon followed.
- Pass The Roles, Please (Hix) - And so too did character classes.
- What He Said. For Real (lilomar) - And then equipment... Healing potions...
- C-C-C-Combo Breaker (lilomar) - And then a basic mechanism for status effects. In some ways this was a very route-one dynasty.
Unan1mous(H2G2Guy) - Anticipating a rush of victory claims at the end of the game, an attempt was made to regulate the process of evaluating counterclaims. It was vetoed.- Encounter: Finally, We're Actually Playing The Game - On 10 June, just over a week into the dynasty, some adventuring happened.
- Encounter: A Soldier Ant
- Don't Fight With The People Upstairs (Freezebird) - Enemies were sorted onto floors.
- Give Us Da Loot (Bucky) - Treasure could be found while dungeon crawling. You couold later loot rooms.
- Resting (Bucky) - @s could rest to recover some of their spent resources.
You Feel an Urge to Return to the Surface(Kevan) - After six days without the queue being processed and with the dynasty facing waves of idling players, Kevan proposed a nomination chop. Did not pass but succeeded in provoking a small flurry of increased activity.- An Experience For Us All (Bucky) - After a few attempts, finally got experience points and leveling up onto the books.
- Encounter: Another Encounter
An Odd Victory Condition(lilomar) - Starting to think about victory condition, this one proposed that the player who had died the most ("having truly learned what life is about") should win the game.- Encounter: Band Of Hill Orcs
- Encounter: Pack of rothes on level 2 - The first encounter on level 2.
- I Have A Dictatorship (Klisz) - The Emperor obviously used their arbitrary text injection power to seize control of the ruleset. It was pretty much immediately overturned but it did give the dynasty another small jolt, at the cost of the Emperor leaving the game.
- Victory Condition (Bucky) - Introduced the Amulet of Yendor and the original victory condition, having the Amulet on dungeon level 0.
- Loose Ends (redtara) - In the aftermath of the Dictatorship, Bucky was nominated to be the new RNG.
- Anyone want to actually plug the hole? (lilomar) - Removed the RNG's arbitrary text injection.
- Automatic Counter-Attacks (Bucky) - Three weeks into the dynasty and a constitutional crisis in the rearview, and finally the monsters could actually hit back
- Magic System (lilomar) - There were still mechanics to be straightforwardly ported over, it turned out. Magic, in this case. This was maybe a mechanic too far and it was ultimately repealed.
- Turbo Grinding (Bucky) - Sped the cadence of the game up substantially. Several weeks later it was sped up again, and then a week or so later sped up again.
- Who Wants To Trade (Galdyn) - Basic item trading.
- Encounter: Back for Revenge
- Encounter: Go Team Ant!
- Encounter: Enter the Mines - The first encounter on floor 3.
- Who Likes To Have Status (Galdyn) - Despite statuses having been added to the ruleset early in the dynasty, monsters were unable to inflict them until a month of game time had elapsed.
- Encounter: The hair on the back of your neck stands up - The first encounter on floor 4.
- Last Typographic Character Standing - Suddenly, PvP. A log of the carnage can be found here.
- Encounter: Wandering D's
- Encounter: Deeper into the Mines
- Encounter: The Birds and the Bees
- Quorum Issue (lilomar) - A scam in which loose wording around the ability to define quorum on a case-by case basis was used to force through a CfJ naming lilomar the winner. The DoV failed, however, because the new rule did not specify that "lilomar" referred to a specific @.
- Encounter: Endgame Expeiator
- Encounter: Beacon Bearer
- Encounter: Temple Guardians - This was the first encounter on floor 5.
- This is a joke proposal, but it might pass anyway (Klisz) - A joke proposal, which passed anyway
- Encounter: You enter a giant anthole
- Recruitment Drive (Purplebeard) - Killed all malingering, present-but-not-active players.
Non-Dynastic changes
- A proposal by a new player, Proposal: Inventory by Narya, exposed that the ruleset's mechanisms for managing the relatioonship between the ruleset and its tracking was unclear. GNDT Fix (Klisz) made the language more direct.
Procedural Vetos(Narya) was another chapter in the long-running farce about whether vetoed proposals could be adminned out of turn. It was vetoed. Sadly for this joke, it was later reproposed and enacted; this dynasty went on to see a lot of vetoes. An attempt to repeal the mechanic failed.Ruleset Defense(Rodney) - An early attempt at defending the core ruleset from scams. Failed, but interesting as an attempt.- Stepping up, per Bucky’s request (lilomar) - With the queue frequently attaining unmanageable length, lilomar joned the cohort of admins. A CfJ to have him stripped of his powers after a later scam failed.
- Not A Banning Offence (Bucky) removed the deletion of material from the blog from the Fair Play list, and added changing proposal titles in its place.
- Since I Started This Mess 2 (lilomar) - defined quorum as being a quorum of players by default.
Ascension
The majority of players were relatively inactive over the course of the dynasty; the only players to make it past dungeon level 1 were Galdyn, lilomar, Josh, and ais523 (who generally travelled through the dungeon in that order). Because for most of the dynasty, it was impossible to move backwards through the dungeon, it meant that players behind in the dungeon, once they'd stocked up on combat items like potions of conflict and beserk [sic] rage, could generally one-shot the people ahead of them immediately upon Finding the Stairs; ais523 eliminated Josh and lilomar like this.
The end of the dynasty, therefore, was a standoff between ais523 and Galdyn, who could move back through the dungeon to attack ais523 due to having picked up the Amulet. Nothing happened for several days, due to both players having appalling luck with the GNDT, failing to roll the 1 on a DICE3 necessary to move to the other player's level and attack. Eventually, after the necessary die was reduced to a DICE2, ais523 got the first 1 and moved onto Galdyn's level; however, he failed to kill Galdyn even with four attacks (using three potions of conflict and one of beserk rage), and Galdyn easily killed ais523 in response, with the aid of a potion of conflict of his own.
Soon afterwards, the last remaining player on dungeon level 1 (Rodney) was eliminated by the cooperation of several players (with Ienpw III landing the final blow), leaving Galdyn to claim a last-@-standing victory. They passed the mantle to Lilomar.
Commentary
I AM THE DICTATOR. FEAR ME. User:Darth Cliche/sig 20:08, 22 Jun 2010 (GMT)
- I don't understand "FEAR ME" Please try again. (The previous unsigned comment added by Qwazukee.)
lilomar tried to conquer the multiverse by lilomar here: http://blognomic.com/archive/quorum_issue/ - his DoV failed because his new victory rule failed to specify that "lilomar" referred to an @'s name. User:Darth Cliche/sig 21:37, 16 Jul 2010 (GMT)
- I've only just noticed that my scam that gained my third dynasty was similarly flawed. Good thing that the DoV passed, I suppose... CallForJudgement 07:30, 20 Feb 2011 (GMT)
Miscellaneous
One aspect of the creature rules allowed the RNG (this dynasty's Emperor figure) to add new creatures to the ruleset, at any time, with special ability text of their own free choice. Darth Cliche used this to add a creature whose effect was "The RNG may edit the ruleset in any way, at any time." and then announced that he was invoking a dictatorship, creating a core rule to that effect.
The rule was overturned by a CfJ, and Darth went idle in response, leaving the Dynasty temporarily without an RNG. He was replaced by Bucky.
